Steering loss-Rack and pinion assembly?
While backing up in driveway steering locked up, moved back and forth and locked in other direction, I didn't try to force anything , heard some sounds up front then lost steering. I am assuming it'* the rack but it was too dark to inspect.
I don't know if I can replace this one . replaced one on a Fiero but there was room to work on it.
Is it worth it to put a rebuilt unit, I see some on E-Bay that are warranted .
This one didn't give me any warning that I recall. I guess I am fortunate as I have read about them breaking going down the road. Thanks

LOL power steering belt. I think they have been using a serpentine belt for awhile. if that broke you would see the battery light come on/ altenator waring and the engine temp would spike.

Just an update, the rack and pinion was fine except it broke loose from the mounts because they rusted off. I mentioned this in another thread that some have lost steering going down the road due to this. The factory mount appears to be a thin stamped metal tray that is welded on top of the heavy sub frame. Not only is it a catch all for water, salt, sand etc. The AC drain tube is right above the mount. I was able to fabricate some heavy steel mounts and replace the rack.
