Thumbs up 3800 standard transmission?

I was wondering what kind of options there are for getting a manual transmission for a gm 3800 supercharged. What are the logistics for something like that?

The old Getrag 282 or 283 5 speed trannies. Early 90'* Beretta'* had them. A few people have done them, serious custom work needs to be done. Whole dash needs to come out, brake booster needs to be moved over to allow for the clutch pedal. I just read on another site, the clutch cable is no longer made for those types of trans. And I'm sure there are many hurtles to over come. Oh, PCM needs to be reprogrammed to turn off the auto trans. Otherwise, your engine won't run right.

the strength would be questionable too, the only trans they made that handled any decent power even for a stock 3800 sc, would be the 6spd from a g6 gxp. they are rare though and it would be easier to use the 3.9 in your car and get the whole harness/ecm and program it too run independently

My question is where do you get a flywheel that will bolt up and balance to the 3800

well i assume you meant firebird and thats an insult so watch your tongue, lol. its not no bloated slow ugly pos.

anyway, im sure they have conversion flexplates for fieros because its such a common swap, like when you put a pre 86 sbc with a t-56, one is internal and one is external balance i believe but basically custom flexplates are not cheap. the sbc/t-56 one i think is over 500, and you still have to buy the clutch.

those transaxles come in manual fieros and are not strong enough even though a ton of people do it. the most stock they came with is a 130hp 3.1

Oh god yes, firebird, not thunder, I will go wash my mouth with soap...
So it doesnt look like a standard transmission would be realistic for this car, what about the difference between then 4t65-e and the HD? Are there any major advantages?
