01 buick century

So, I was thinking if I get this car cheap enough and replace the windshield (if I can figure out how) and get at least the dents on the hood fixed (hoods are $40 at Pick N Pull) I'd have a nice car. It seems to be really clean, although I have not seen it in person yet.

Would it be worth trying to fix up and flip? I've never bought a used car before. Any opinion about what my starting offer on it should be?

It'* not a bad deal, but it'* a little much for the damage. I think the 2001 has the old style Intake manifold gaskets, so they could start leaking. I'm pretty sure 2001 is when they started changing to the revised gaskets.

The best thing you can do is go take a look at it if you can. Check for rust (especially on the rocker panels) and any more damage. Check for small things too, like the window regulators, and take a look at the oil to make sure there'* no coolant or water in it.

I don't think you'd be able to flip for much of a profit at that price. After all, it is a 11 year old car.. See if you can knock the price to $2k or less. You might be able to get $3k with it repaired and cleaned up..

Hmm, you're right. Although the car is rust free I think I'll avoid offering on it due to the intake gaskets, which is something I'd never thought about before.

Yeah, it'* one of the most overlooked thing on a 60* V6 car.

You can always ask the owner if it has already been changed.

I don't see anything wrong with the engine, from what I can see in the pics..., but, you could do what Travis said, and, ask if the intake manifold gaskets have ever been changed. Does the car have a salvage/rebuilt title? If not, you can fix whatever damage there is, and, have a 1/2 way decent car, which seems to look good.

3800 swap should be extremely easy, especially if you can get a Regal donor car. Get it Reid and look for a scrapped regal and make a sick sleeper Century

Is it just limited to the Regals? Any 3800 from any FWD 95-2005 should work minus the engine mounts and sensors.

I'm not sure if any extra wiring harnesses would be needed. Seems the Regal and Century share the same body, that would be the easiest route, especially with the mounts.

Oh, yea, complete harness swap would be in order, along with PCM. Original trans should be fine.
