Going Synthetic

A guy who claims to be pretty knowledgeable about cars tells me that if I change to synthetic oil I can never go back to non-synthetic. Apparently, it is terrible for the car. Is this a load of bull or the truth?

I do know that it is generally recommended to stay with the same brand of motor oil. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than myself can assist me in answering this question.

Thats what I was told too....interesting...kinda makes sense though, off the bat :?

the only problem with switching to full synthetic is it might casuse seals to leak because of its high detergent level......you can switch back and fourth from synthetic to generic, and you mix the two as well to get a semi sythetic blend.

It won't hurt a thing; But why would you want too? Synthetic is the best thing since sliced bread  .

Well sliced bread wasnt quite that expensive.
Go with a synthetic blend if you are worried about any ill effects. Plus you wont get raped on the price of a true synthetic.

As for switcing brands? How many different ingredients can there be for a product that has to be pretty much universal? I switched over from Mobil 1 to Valvoline Max Life without any problems. The Mobil 1 was getting to be hard to get.

its really good oil IMHO i ran it in my truck from the 82k i bought it w/ to the 157,000 mile mark where i sold it.....the bonnie suddenly decided it wanted to be roughly 2 quarts low.....so i think its time to change.

synthetic - good for highway drivers, as it might give a tad better mileage (less friction). It is not recommended for high milage cars tho, as it is thinner and can leak through old seals and stuff.
