When the intake gaskets leak, the problem can become very severe... When you are talking about a 97 or 98 3100 or 3400, by this time they are more than overdue for a set of intake gaskets, most have 50,000-100,000+ miles on them.... I better leave this alone... I have been to that site before... This gets to be a heated thing with me...

The 3100/3400 have their issues, and I'll leave it at that

There'* a dark brown Saturn SL running around here with *green* painter'* tape all over it... why?

His car is a lemon (relatively new still), and GM won't do anything about it. Or so he says with the tape

they screwed up and didnt take care of their car and now they are looking for someone to blame. You wanna know why cars are so expensive, those frivolous lawsuits dont help.

You can take care of a car and it can still be a lemon. You can baby a NA 3800 II from the start and the upper intake can still go. You can baby a 3100/3400 and the intake gaskets can still go. And if undiagnosed, well...

But if you take care of it you can catch it early before it does any damage to the motor. If you neglect it and you end up with a junked motor, you have nobody to blame if it could have been prevented.

If your car got an oil leak and you drove it with the OIL LEVEL light on and no oil in the engine, it would most likely be ruined beyond repair. GM cannot be responible for every little thing that might go wrong on the engine if its out of warranty. Think about all the different moving parts that could fail within an engine. If you neglect the warning signs then you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Look at the mileages when you need to replace the intake on a 3800, I replaced mine at 131k, hardly close to warranty. The 3400 problem occurs at about the same mileage, which is also well out of warranty.

You are correct, you can still take care of a car and it can be a lemon, but you are the one that decided to buy it, shouldn't you at least try to become familiar with the common problems of a car before you buy it?

He had one part fail. That caused a snowball effect, but that'* it! I'm sure there were plenty of tell tale signs going on as well, that were either ignored, or never seen because he'* probably just some average guy.
