Default 97 SSE - Buy it? Part it? Winter Beater?

Not sure of anyone remembers, but a while back, I came across a '97 SSE not too far from me. I finally got to talk to the guy today and got some info.

1. Tranny is SHOT. We got it fired up, I put it in drive, car doesn't even move. Fluid is very brown and stinks to high hell.
2. It'* black, with charcoal interior, has AL7s, and Chrome T-stars. Has some damage on the passenger quarter panel, not too bad.
3. Engine is newer, UIM says '00. Engine is really quiet and has no noises, except for the whining tranny. Looks like it will eventually need LIM gaskets, UIM and coolant elbows, leaks from the elbow.
4. He is asking $500 for it. It seems to me I would rather fix it up and use it as a winter beater. Of course the T-stars would go on my '92. If all else fails, I would be parting it out.

So, should I do it or should I let him junk it? The owner stated that if no one buys it, it'* going to the crusher. He'* giving me 2 months to think about it, then it'* going.

If you decide not to buy it, let me know! I'd buy it to fix up and keep as a spare car.

Well, I talked to my Dad. I am gonna bite the bullet and buy it. I figure it won't be TOO bad. Not sure of the estimated time arrival, I'd assume within a month or 2.

Plans are -

UIM, LIM gaskets, Coolant elbows, flush and fill coolant.

JY tranny, or one from Morad if he gets one in.

Put T-stars on the '92, and Aerolites on the '97.

Forgot to mention I climbed under the car, surprisingly minimal rust for a NE Ohio car.

I only live about 2 hours from you, and i could use a good trunk lid and center tail light section, along with good bumper covers, and a plethora of other parts and this car is an exact clone of mine! If you were to part it I would buy a mess of things from it. Provided the prices are reasonable.

I most likely won't part it out. The body is too clean (Little to no rust). It will probably end up becoming my parts runner/winter beater, and the '92 will be my Spring/Summer/Fall driver.
