92 SSEi vs. 96 SSE
I am looking and was wondering which car is really faster. I know that the SSE has the Series 2 so it has the same (supposedly) numbers as a stock Series 1 L67. Which car would feel/ be quicker?

the SSE will prolly feel faster, performance wise with a 92, since the 92 didnt have the improvements that the 93 and later years did. I think that OBE'* SSE ran a 16.5 or something like that at the track, i dunno they are prolly the same in weight wise, look at it this way, there are MANY more performance options for the L36 than the series one L27, you can make the SSE fast

well im not sure which would be faster stock, but obviously the l67s modding potential is far greater than the l36s...i mean with what? 150-200 bucks you could gain at least 30-40hp from that l67...they may be about the same though, i would think the l67 would have more low end grunt, i wonder what the torque curve looks like?

The 92 SSEi should be quicker, it'* lighter, develops more torque also. All things being equal.

I ran a 15.948 @ 87.52***
Smellbird ran a 15.7XX @ 89mph, but with an Intense PCM, Intense 3rd Gen rockers, ported mani'*, and a couple other mods that I didn't have
*** -Run was with rear seat, rear dash cover, full trunk gutted, floor mats, headrests, drivers headlight, and a few other things removed. Engine mods were NGK TR-55 plugs (.057"), Belden Premium plug wires, Thrasher CAI (top removed), Magnaflow 2.5" high flow cat, 3" DP, and 1/3 tank of 92 octane gas.
Definitely was a good day aside from the sloppy launch.
I'd bet with a excellent running 1996 SSE with a good launch, CAI, free'er flowing exhaust, 180* T-stat, and better plugs and wires will pull around a 16.0-16.25 maybe less with a good tight engine (mine at the time I ran the 15.948 had around 168k). The 1996 has an ever so slight gearing advantage over the 1998+ (3.06 with the 4T60E in SSE'* and 3.05 with the 4T65E in SSE'*).

Actually, that'* backwards, Steve. The L36 has longer legs, as the power is delivered higher in the rpm band.
HOWEVER, every single part for the Series 2 L67 is available FOR CHEAPER for the Series 1 L67. And the 92 SSEi will blow away an L36 in the torque department, and is VERY easily modded to take it across the board.
From a pure performance standpoint, the 92 will take the prize hands down in the money:horsepower ratio.
