funny spring sizes, F41 & FE1

After my post of the spring sizes in my F41 '93, I searched this site and found that there has been a bunch of dicussion pertaining to the many springs that this era of Bonneville could have been delivered with. The measurements I gave are accurate, but who knows what I've really got.... Just for fun, tonight I will measure all 4 springs from the F41 car, I only did the left side, since this was the side closest to the house. Wouldn't it be funny if they didn't match left to right? Anyway, does anyone know why GM did this, and was it based on other options? Like 15" wheels vs. 16" wheels? Option packages like 1SD vs 1SC?
Just for my knowledge, what is the range one would expect in an FE1? I'd like to know if my original car is on the stiff side or soft side. Heck, I wonder what I would find in my '99 Olds eighty-eight... that thing is a boat! Mike

I have no idea. I've only measured one of my FE2 cars. That's the 16/15 on the SSEi. I intend to measure the 95 sometime this weekend, and 1993 SLE is going to measure as many cars as he can in a couple weeks at the NEBF meet.

It'd be nice to have some people measure their springs and state what suspension code they have.

I'll do my part..

All I can add is the front and rear measurements of my FE1 car, that has been in my family since the showroom.
My F41 car, bought used, I'll give measurements on all 4, but who knows?
Both cars are '93 SE's, SLE package.

Its hard to explain all of the spring diffrences.... There can be a possible 3 -5 diffrent spring rates for the FE1, FE2, FE3, F41... In some cases the FE2, FE3 and F41 can fall into the same category... Its strange how its all worked out...

In doing some research, and still haveing a very hard time finding all of the Aftermarket niumbers I need, I'm finding that various models 90-99 used simmiliar springs... Keep in mind that 90 had 2 spring designs for ther front of the car... There was a change midyear or so...

I have found that the 91 SSE had the same front springs as the 92 SSE-SSEi, but diffrent rear springs... The SSE's had the FE2 suspension... The 91 SSE used the same rear spring as a 95 SE... But all of the SSEi's across the board use diffrent springs as compared to the SE, SLE and SSE... The SSE was the odd ball as it could have had a softer FE2 or the same performance minded suspension as the SSEi... So its very strange...

Dame may have to answer the question for us, but I believe that even his 87 SE with F41 had 16.2 mm front springs and 15.0-15.2 mm rear springs... I will be doing more research in the future...

1SC and 1SD are Option groups.. ;)

All I've got is that my 92 SSE has the FE2 on the RPO tag. I can check the 93 SE parts car tomorrow.

We need measurements of both.
