1997 Bonneville SE Engine Hesitation, Need Desperate help!
My cars old owner had a new transmission put in it, its 1997 39K on it.. excellent car, the transmission solely at highway speeds, especially like when I am going 50 or 60 and my foot is slightly pressed the rpms will vary from 1k-2200k and it will hesitate for a slight moment approx 2-3 seconds, and go on, not much or any loss in speed, but it does it especially when in cruise control??? Anyone got Any ideas? the car had 2600$ of transmission work on it and I am broke, I checked spark plugs, wires, all the obvious, but what else could it be besides taking it to the dealer and paying them 80 bux to hook it up on a computer... Someone please give me some ideas of what I can do...

well it sounds like it might have not of been a problem with the transmission in the first place. A lot of the time a shop just assumes that it is the transmission'* fault and they will just replace it without looking deeper into the problem. It could be aproblem with the PCM actually. Or, maybe even a problem with the torque converter. Are there any other transmission problem signs? For example, how is the shifting? Is it smooth? WIth a new transmission you shouldn't even be able to feel it shift really. Your shift points I"d imagine under light throttle should be at 1-2@20 2-3@25-30 and 3-OD@45.
Or, the hesitation might not even be a problem with the transmission. The engine could be lacking power and it causes the transmission to have to constantly downshift when in cruise control to maintain a certain speed. If you rev the engine in neutral, does it ever stumble if you press it down quickly? How about when you accelerate? Is the acceleration smooth and not choppy?

more help...
Well I have had torque converters go out b4 and i know what it feels like and it doenst feel like this at all, And i dont understand what u mean by pressing the gas at neutral, I am a newbie here lol... If i rev it up in neutral it does fine, is that what u mean??? Also, the car only hesitates like i said during highway driving, with or w/o cruise control on??? Could it be like the throttle body??? or fuel injecotrs?

well, it doesn't sound like the engine is hesitating then, it'* a tranny problem of some type. If it does this at around 45-55 MPH then it is probably just shifting into overdrive. The solenoid for the 3-4 shift might need to be replaced or something. I know on my lesabre the shift into overdrive is very prominent. It seems to last up to 2 seconds and it feels like the car is losing power when it shifts. I've just gotten used to it and ignore it. It just sounds like it is shifting into OD and being normal. When you drive and it'* about to shift into OD, the RPM'* will jump for a slight second (Up to 2,200 RPM) and then drop back down to around 1,500 and it should hold steady there...(depending on speed. at 55 it should be around 1,600 RPM, at 75 around 2,000)

More help
If it matters any, when i gun it, it doesnt do it.. it sound identical to what your lesabre is doing, but this shouldnt do it cuz a bonneville is a high class of a car, could it be something in my solenid valves, or MSD COils like the other guy posted?? If so, how much are these repairs

I dont know
Well, It doesnt do it but only on open road like i said between 50-100 mph, i drove on cruise last night at 105mph and i was flying.... However its funny, I wont lose any speed at all, and if i simply take my foot off the gas and press it again, the hesitation stops, but if i count to 3, it stops anyway, i dont lose power or speed really, it juss hesitates slightly like i said on the open road, the trans shifts quiet as a kitten, i contacted the owner of the car and they had 2600$ in work done on the trans b4 i bought the car, so im pretty sure its all up 2 snuff.... Any other ideas?? Keep in mine I dont know crap about cars,, tell me something i can do or buy at autozone.
