Default SSEi hype?

For those of you who have driven both the SLE/SSEi of the same year, can you honestly say you can notice a big difference? I drove my bro'* SLE and my mom'* SSEi and really there isn't THAT big of a differnece between the acceleration of the two. They have the same mileage basically too. The acceleration of the SSEi is the same as my Riviera too, but the SLE really isn't much slower. maybe a whole .3 seconds slower to 60 MPH. Now, if you're going to keep it stock does it really make much difference between having the supercharger? I think the gear ratio on the NA SLE really puts it up to par with the SSEi. Another plus is the regular fuel and increased gas mileage. What are the thoughts of some of you? Am I totally crazy or what?

I test drove a 98 SSEi when I had my 95 SSE. They both had Series II motors. The SSEi was quite a difference. It felt way faster, and had way more pickup. The gas milage in the city isn't great for the SC'ed engine, but on the highway, it'* about the same as the NA engine.

Now, going to the GTP, a lighter car, was even a greater difference.

Go to the dragstrip. Race a car of the same vintage.

Hell a GTP barely got outa my way at Byron.

is there a difference driving them? Yeah, but knowing how to drive your car can sometimes make up for it

My car is faster than My buddy Davids' 93 SSEi. I think it comes down to the driver and the maintence of the car.

I think that the first cars to have the Series 2 NA and 3.06 really arent too far off from the Series 1 */Ced...because the like oh 95-97ish? cars were lighter in comparision to later models..95 being the lightest if im not mistaken and 96 next...and from all the times ive seen on various sites the NAs dont lag too far behind..theyre quicker than you think. but i think they pale in comparision to a Series 2 SC. just my $.02..and you can keep the change, by yourself something pretty

There is a HUGE difference. You can't really compare how fast the car "feels" anyways. My friends Z28 FEELS really fast. If I didn't know any better I would say it was a low 11 second car basing it on what the GTP feels like, but its a mid 13 second car....

Drive down the road at about 50mph, both cars door to door, and then go WOT in both cars to 100mph...then tell me there isn't much difference...I think the 5 carlengths will make you reconsider your thoughs.

And anyways, put $100 into the SE/SLE and then put $100 into the SSEi...you'll notice the difference there...mostly in tire wear though.

HUGE difference in the 93'*. I can say that with experience. I've driven 2 L27'* and 2 L67'* of that year, and there'* no comparison at all.

Custom88 IS speaking of the 2000+ SLE/SSEi, not the 92-99. I felt a little differmce myself when I drove 2 different club member cars last year. The SLE did have some inpressive hick but still wasnt as fast as the SSEi. At the same time the SSEi could use some more kick in it because the SLE wasnt that far behind when we raced on this strip.

Amen to tire wear. Heck of a lotta fun to drive a car with an */C. That'* all I have to say.

yupI was speaking from the 2000+ perspective. shoulda made that clear. The SSEi does feel a lot smoother and powerful it just doesn't feel that much faster. Guess I'd just have to compare them some more. I do know that the SSEi and Riviera are identical in acceleration to eachother though. I'm sure at the strip they'd be nose to nose. One nice thing about the SLE I noticed was that the transmission is ultra smooth whereas both my car and the SSEi have a little jump as they shift even under light/normal acceleration.. I"ll get more indepth with another post on my rough shifting tranny though. ;(
