Default Would you trust a EZ Drain plug for your GM?

DORMAN makes a EZ-Drain oil plug, wondering if anyone would actually consider installing one. I am looking at it as a possible way to drain the oil on my Bonneville without lifting up the front end. I can get under the Bonneville with lifting, but can't get enough leverage to break the oil drain bolt free.

The big fear is that this aftermarket part could fail, and if that happens the results would likely be a catastrophic engine failure.

No Mess Oil Drain Valve

How it Works:
Push up and twist orange **** to the right
Drain oil into appropriate receptacle
Push up and twist orange **** to the left to close the EZ Drain™ valve.
Refill crankcase with oil.

I'm thinking you would still have to jack the car up to change the filter, which would negate the advantage of this product.

Roy,

I use the extended size oil filter (used in GM 4.3L engines) and a visual check made me think I could replace the oil filter without the lift.

I did some additional checks of the EZ DRAIN and it appears the oil drains much slower, and that a fear that not all of the oil/ sentament is able to exit the oil pan as the EZ DRAIN component sits slightly higher than the inside of the pan bottom.

I don't even think I could pull my filter off without lifting it.(4.3 filter) Drain plug yea.

I wouldn't trust those one single bit IMO.

Yes, I am squashing this idea. Thanks for the inputs.

They used the EZ plug on a lot of lawn mowers. the ones I had always were harder to use than just unscrewing a normal oil plug

Besides, jacking up the car is always a good opportunity to get under there and see what else is going on.
