Finally ready!! (Motor Swap Update)

I got my Intense PCM about 10 minutes ago from UPS, now I have everything.

I already had my motor in the car, but never could get the bellhousing bolts to start, there was a 1/4 inch gap between the motor and tranny. Upon further inspection I didn't install the torque converter far enough on. So I pulled the motor back out, now with the torque converter properly installed, the motor goes back in.

I'm leaving early from work to get started, and I have the day off tomorrow. I'll finally have my car back!!!

glad to hear it bud....i better see this thing in Jan ;)

BillBoost37 11-27-2006 12:40 PM

I wanna see pics and vids way before that!

Good deal!! What year motor/trans did you swap in again? Just wondering cause Intense obviously doesn't support the '96 PCM...

ChaseSmith 11-27-2006 11:05 PM

Well, engine will be in, in the morning. The car is ready and fully cleaned, and the engine is fully assembled, ready to drop in. One of my options on my PCM was removed EVAP. The entire EVAP system all the way to the hard line at the firewall is removed.

Dillcc, the car is a 96 SE swapped with a 96 L67, 98 GTP tranny (4T65e-HD), running a 97 SSEi Intense PCM. I am making the engine bay look as stock as possible, hopefully people looking at the car will not realize it's boosted, until I blow by them. My friend has a scanner and hopefully tomorrow evening I will have it scanned to tell the KR, or lack there of.

WOOT! That was post 420!!

Glad to hear things are finally coming together, Chase.

If at all possible, I intend to get with you and Pat in January and I'd love to see it on the road. Shoot, it's almost been a year since you started this, hasn't it?

ChaseSmith 11-29-2006 09:33 AM

Close to a year, I pulled the motor out of the car January 1st, New Years Day. I've finally had enough free time to work on it, and I have a garage now too.

I got everything in yesterday, now I just have to hook up certain things, like power steering, tranny hoses, radiator hoses, air conditioning, and top off all fluids. I'm getting excited, and I'll post some pictures probably tomorrow.

I take it you don't have any smog laws in your state then huh?

willwren 11-29-2006 10:38 PM

Smog laws are FEDERAL. All 50 States. Smog TESTS are by State.

MACDRIVE 11-30-2006 04:50 PM

Is this car able to pass smog in the state of Florida with the EVAP system disabled? Just curious.

Who knows, they don't test where I live, the car has not been tested ever.

BonneMeMN 12-01-2006 01:17 AM

Updates?

I wanna see this.

ChaseSmith 02-03-2007 11:56 AM

It's alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It runs, I have yet to move it, but the tranny goes into gear and everything!!!!!!

I have no tag or insurance on it, and not surprisingly the brake rotors have a thick coat of rust on them, so I pulled them off and I'm getting them turned after work today. Gotta get that year old 87 octane out of the tank, and get some fresh 93 before it drives too!

For those that don't know.
The Car- 1996 Bonneville SE 302k original miles

The Swap - 1996 L67, 1997 4T65eHD Tranny, 97 Intense PCM, Modified stock 96 L67 Wiring Harness, lots of new parts

The Goodies (NOT installed yet) - Walbro fuel pump, Fuel pump hotwire kit, 3.4 MPS, Oversized idler pulley

The Goodies (Installed) - Aeroforce, FWI

I haven't installed some parts yet, I wanted to make sure everything works right before I started adding more variables to the picture. The entire system still needs to be installed also, the audio/video is completely gutted right now. It will all be in place also before it drives. The car got a stereo sponsor this year (Soundstream Audio), so it's got some new stuff going in it, including all new Soundstream wires, they asked me to take all of the Stinger out of it.

Full write up, pics and vids to follow

Wow Chase! Good to hear that something is finally happening with your swap. Hope you get the time to get it up and running for real, soon. ;)
