I've used the 94 filter in my 92. It works fine. I was told by K&N it wasn't listed for 92 and 93 because the box was made of a flimsier material and they were worried about flex and unfiltered air going through around the filter. If I were to try it, first put a small film of grease on the outer part of the filter and put it in then take it out. If the grease made contact all the way around, it should be fine. It did. It also came with a rubber gasket to put in to help it out further. I kept an eye on it and never found any evidence of dirt getting in.
But getting a complete cone filter intake would be a better idea.

ok guys, here is what I got and where I got it from. They had the gaskets and the o-ring, and the thermostat !! I also bought an O2 sensor from here as well.
These parts are for a 1992 SSE, but I bought the same ones for my 97 SSEi and they fit perfectly on both cars.

These will fit from 1992-1997 and maybe some others. Yes, you need both gaskets.
Part number Item Cost
45848 180 Thermostat 6.44
35486 Water outlet Gasket 1.86
35534 Water Outlet Gasket 1.62
The O2 sensor for the 1992 only is an AC Delco #213-503 and costs $31.49
They were very helpful and fast and answer questions via email.
Cheers,
Andrew
