One of the campus shuttle buses at my school is powered by biodiesel. An engineering student refined used fryer oil and they are testing it on a bus. It runs on a standard diesel engine, although the exhaust smells like french fries.

This is my favorite rant.
The environmental "groups" push electric cars and other oil driven generators. You don’t see the push for the better fuel (in my opinion) alcohol. The Germans did the diesel veg deal years and years ago and with a special "deal" a stock Benz or other VW diesel would run off strait pure veg oil.

Ethanol is a big thing here in MN cause of all the corn growers. All gas in MN is around 15% ethanol, and a lot of state organizations have converted their trucks and plows etc to 85% ethanol or biodiesel. They are doing this to help farmers, cars run the same on it too, but burn cleaner as well.

Yep you can do it with veggy oil. I've seen it done on Popular Mech. For Kids. It'* more difficult then you think. You just can't pore it in, or it will clog the fuel lines and such. You have to use some other chemical I forget what but it a clear liguid when it'* finished and then pore it in and smell the french fries.

I believe it is boric acid. The chemical reaction neutrallizes the acid and changes the burning properties of the oil to more closely resemble diesel fuel. I bet that if someone was interested enough, he could look it up on the internet.
