Default how big of tires?

I am planning to get some better tires for my summer rims. My summer rims are 16x8, and I have been using my stock 225/60/16 '* on the summer rims. How big of tires can I go? I was looking at 245/50/16, but can I go to 255/50/16?

Thanks,

Rob

The one thing that is CRITICAL...is to maintain total rolling diameter. Do your darndest to maintain diameter. The general rule of thumb is 10% diameter difference. Don't fugde with your tranny gearing or speedometer

Example

I have 235/60VR16 giving 27.1 inches diameter, I an upgrading +1" rims therefore 255/50ZR17'* have a diamter of 27 inches.

.1" difference, this will not affect my gearing and not effect my speedometer accuracy.

I think you acan do 255/50/16. SSEi95'* tires are the same size, aren't they?

Yes, Gordy went big, but had to bend some sheetmetal up front in order to go full-lock on the steering. If you're willing to do this, 255 meats will work. 245'* should work with no modifications. This is what I plan for my next set.

There'* a tire size calculator in Techinfo.

I am back to a set of all weather tires until I can hopefully get some rims this spring.

I had to have the welded lip inside the rear wells folder back to make sure they wouldn't puncture the tire on compression of the suspension. This isn't as big of a deal as it sounds.

The fronts would barely hit the plastic frame gaurd in the front. Nothing that really ever bothered me though. It only happened at full lock.

The handeling with the wider tires was awesome though. I plan on getting a set with similar width if I can when I get new rims.

245/50/16 is the widest you can go before doing what Gordy did. I went to 245'* last summer and absolutly love it!

So 245/50R16'* fit on the stock rims? I've been looking to go wider for a while. Gotta replace the tires sometime, right? Might as well upgrade

I'm not sure about that.....but I THINK SSEi95 put his 255'* on stock rims. Check with him to be sure. (and post here if you find an answer )
