And getting back on topic, definitely that thing didn't have half the stuff done to it he said it did, if any. Dealers will lie out their ears to sell a car. You name off everything wrong with it and lower that price!

In my own experience there is some difference in smoothness, at least in STOCK form. Not just smoothness in the engine itself during acceleration, but smoothness in the way the car rides while accelerating. My 94 seemed to be "rougher" when accelerating, not rough as in it wasn't running well, but it sounded rougher, meaner and more aggressive. You got more of a "raw power" kind of feel with it.
My '03 accelerates very smooth in comparison, and sounds a lot smoother too. The car rides smoother too but it'* a completely different body.
But when I threw the intake on the 94, it felt A LOT smoother. IMO I think part of the "roughness" in acceleration was just how the stock airbox setup is on the 92-95 years.

The difference in smoothness... S2 has chrome moly rings and a ballance shaft. S1 does not. sorry for going off topic and I never said S1 was not smooth!

Considering I see SSEis all over the roads out here, it shouldn't be hard to come across one for a test drive. I was all excited thinking 'wow, I could really catch up to one of these easily with very few mods'. But at the same time, I was saying 'hmm, something seems very wrong' lol

In good tune, you won't touch one on the 1/4 mile. That one was hosed or severely out of tune.
Keep in mind finding them on the lot WON'T be EASY. Have patience. They made 5000 or fewer per year. Production numbers are in Techinfo.
