Rusted threw.
Attachment 22096

Drivers side isn't as bad.
Attachment 22097

Surface rust on the passenger side door.
Attachment 22098

Deep scratch on the drivers side door.
Attachment 22099

Jacked it up so it's easier to work on.
Attachment 22100

The rust is bad, real deep.
Attachment 22101

Now on to the rocker panels.
Attachment 22102

Cutting it off.
Attachment 22103

Now much metal left here.
Attachment 22104

You know what I say, if your not bleeding, your not working on a car. I opened the door and it slammed shut. Didn't see it coming, but I sure felt it.
Attachment 22105

More pictures coming

It's not really your car if it hasn't drawn blood!

When can I bring my car by for some rust removal.

yutzybrian 09-20-2010 06:47 PM

Yea I got some on mine I need to get around too, just haven't felt like forking out the money for paint to repaint the area after I fix it :/

ekidman 09-20-2010 07:26 PM

Ah, wonderful rocker panel rust. Luckily mine isn't that bad yet lol, but I see plenty that are. Good luck, looking forward to seeing some after pics.

sseidriver97 09-20-2010 07:49 PM

mine almost as bad on the 97 and ouch about your ear

Danthurs 09-20-2010 08:36 PM

I would put some pictures up, but every time I try to upload them to photobucket it fails.

Have you tried the bulk uploader?

Well, I got a few uploaded.

After messing around with the cut off wheel, I ran out and bought this.
Attachment 22081

Yep, I think this will be better.
Attachment 22082

Oh heck ya, this is way better.
Attachment 22083

All gone.
Attachment 22084

Attachment 22085

This is all that was left of the passenger side, it just fell apart.
Attachment 22086

Fitting the new panel.
Attachment 22087

Man, the rust. Guess I'm doing some glass work as well.
Attachment 22088

Drilled the holes for spot welding
Attachment 22089

All done.
Attachment 22090

Next time I do this, I'm buying a actual spot welder.
Attachment 22091

This took forever. If I went to fast it blew a hole in the metal.
Attachment 22092

Glassed up the hole.
Attachment 22093

Attachment 22094

Masking it off for paint.
Attachment 22095

Now I need to try to upload more pictures.

Danthurs 09-20-2010 09:30 PM

The problem seems to be my Internet connection. It's seems to be turning on and off. Kind of ticking me off.

ymmot04 09-20-2010 09:59 PM

I'm excited for the after pictures, that's quite the project you've got going. Hopefully your internet comes back up soon.

Snuck a few more in.

Welding the rocker panel on.
Attachment 22079

Because getting images on line is a pain, I skipped right to the finished product.

Looks good Dan. That's a lot of work that needed to get done and it was certainly done nicely!

Danthurs 09-21-2010 12:01 AM

I still have a bit more work to do tomorrow. Need to wash it down. I noticed a few areas where the paint was a little thin. Darn bad lighting. I'll touch that up in the morning. He picks it up tomorrow at 2:30. Then I'm going to go look at something. Something I've wanted to get for about a year. Will be a great addition to the shop.

BillBoost37 09-21-2010 06:44 AM

Dan... you make it look easy. :thumbup2

I know better and have always thought about learning.

Danthurs 09-21-2010 07:50 AM

It really wasn't hard Bill. The right tools make it easier. however, with so much rot, it was a pain.

BillBoost37 09-21-2010 12:39 PM

Being that you can't bake the paint. How long should you wait before wet sanding and making it turn to a mirror shine?

Danthurs 09-21-2010 12:46 PM

I like to wait a week. Then 2500 grit.

MouSe 09-21-2010 01:59 PM

So he's gonna bring it back so you can cut and buff it?

Danthurs 09-21-2010 02:30 PM

That's up to him. If he waits a week and then gives it a polish and wax it wont be as bad.

SignOfZeta 09-21-2010 07:11 PM

You did an amazing job on that GP. How much did you charge the guy?

Danthurs 09-21-2010 08:16 PM

$400 plus paint and parts.

Black Pearl 09-21-2010 08:47 PM

Great work as always Dan

ekidman 09-21-2010 09:35 PM

Nice work, I always love seeing GP's come back to life a bit, even if it's an se... lol

Danthurs 09-21-2010 09:42 PM

Nice car, but really needs more.
