does this sound right?

1998 SE. Black, tan cloth, body is a little dinged up, but not near as bad as mine, paint is in awesome shape. Interior is mint. It was the owner's personal car until about a week ago. Looks like a pretty much base model car. It's at one of those buy here-pay here dealers. He said I could drive it off the lot for $4999. Does this sound like a decent price? Taxes are coming back soon and my car is getting kinda tired.

Miles

EDIT: In my area code, retail is $4915, with 84,000 miles in excellent shape.

Hans 01-22-2007 08:05 PM

unless it has less than 40,000 miles I'd say its a ripoff.

There are several 96-99 SSEis with higher miles in that price range. There is a 97 SE for 2000 locally in UTAH, with 190,000....and another 98se with 105,000 for 3500 so I'd say its overpriced

We are talking private party..I am.

Dealer that is about normal.

He said I could drive it off the lot for $4999
That's really high. Go to http://cars.com and compare based on what you know about the car. Search in your area, then take print outs when you go to talk to him.

harofreak00 01-22-2007 08:19 PM

at least double of what i would pay

my parents picked up there 97 ssei 3 years ago for that price

ReallyAGXP 01-22-2007 08:30 PM

Remember GUYS he said buy here pay here places if thats a monthly pay price then tac on interest but it its a cash price keep looking

vital49 01-22-2007 08:32 PM

That's a very high price. I figure I could sell my 99 SE for about $1,700 around here.

Mine pretty much matches the description you posted.

bonnie94ssei 01-22-2007 08:36 PM

I agree it's more than I would pay for an SE. It must have low miles if they are charging that much. I'd keep looking.

ga93sle 01-22-2007 09:31 PM

It has 113K on it. I figured I'd ask you guys about what they go for b/c KBB said $3100 for that car in my area, but it also said mine is worth $1500, and I'm never getting that out of it, lol.

harofreak00 01-22-2007 09:33 PM

that right there should tell ya something ;)

Yeah, that's why I was asking because there aren't a whole lot of Bonnevilles that sell around here, and I was wondering what you guys have seen them go for.

95SLE 01-22-2007 09:38 PM

If you are willing to travel to Atlanta or Agusta you would have a larger selection and better prices.

Hans 01-22-2007 09:39 PM

why not get one of these? they are an hour or so drive away

1997 SE with 114k for $2995

1996 SE with 112k for $3450

Better yet

How does a SSEi for $2200 sound?

bonnie94ssei 01-22-2007 10:01 PM

113K for $5,000? :lmao I'd laugh at the guy! Good thing you asked.

EK98 01-23-2007 12:25 AM

I paid 2000 for my 98 SE, however it did have 160,000 miles when I bought it. That price for the car you are looking at seems pretty high.

BillBoost37 01-23-2007 06:53 AM

At 133,000 I paid $3,300 for the SSEi.

Around here..I'd pick up that car for less. And if you look for a car that needs a thing or two.. it's a lower price for something you can probably fix yourself.

ga93sle 01-23-2007 12:31 PM

OK, so nay on the 98 SE. After school, though, I am gonna take it for a spin just for sh*ts and giggles, cause I've never drove an L36. Wanna see how it compares to my L27.

bonnie94ssei 01-23-2007 01:37 PM

The 1-2 shift will feel different. It was for me when I first drove an L36. It'll be smoother too.

ga93sle 01-23-2007 06:34 PM

Yeah, took it for a spin, had to hold myself back from laughing right at this guy. Drove it about 2 miles down the road. The acceleration was ungodly slow, my dad's wore out pickup has better acceleration than this thing. The transmission clunked into every gear, and something clunked when I went to slow down. He told me it runs and drives new.

dillcc 01-23-2007 09:01 PM

Wow, what a joke! STAY AWAY, haha.
