Do you need to change air filter for an SSEi
 

Hey everybody. I just saw a story on Yahoo that said you increase your mileage with a clean air filter versus a dirty one. The effect was actually pretty dramatic per the story. That got me wondering if a clean air filter even matters with a super charger pumping in the air. Does the air still go through the air filter with a super charged engine? Probably a dumb question but I don't ever recall my filter being changed.

Yes and yes. A clean air filter is ALWAYS better. Replace that filter right away, or get a drop in K&N for even better breathing.

Your supercharged engine pulls its air through a filter and will respond to a clean or performance air filter even more so than a NA engine.

How do you like the Bonne now that you have put 22,000 miles on it?

Wow, it has been a long time since I have been on here. I actually now have 94,000 miles on it. I love the car and it has treated me well. It is still in pristine condition. I let my wife drive it once to save on gas driving her minivan when it was expensive and she got a small door ding and that is the extent of the wear. I have never parked next to another car in a parking lot if at all possible and she did. I have kept under the hood and engine bay cleaned and waxed so it still looks just like new. I am in MN but the car was from way down south so it has only seen a few winters now and I only park indoors, both at work (in a climate controlled, private spot without neigbors) and home. When I hear people say these cars and engines are bullet proof I know what they mean. The one item that is wearing out is the Super Charger Coupler but I just don't know how to address it. Local shops will not touch a supercharger and the stealers are overpriced to me. Now the other issue that was broken when I had it shipped unbeknownst to me was two of the ccr struts. I have never replaced them and the ride has been horrible since the day I got it. The conversion to regular air ride struts was out of my spending range for this old a car. Other than that it is not as good in snow as other cars I have had regardless of the tires I have on it. That is about it. I wouldn't mind upgrading to an SSEi in the 2000's.

Changing the coupler is something you can do yourself if you have tools and a good place to work. I'm sure if you ask Billboost he can give you a quick write up. You will need new snout oil.

Have you looked on Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto for struts? The prices are very good. I think Toddster just did his rear struts.

K&N filters actually are more effective when they're a bit dirty. When they're brand new or just cleaned, they let too large of a particle through.
