Do head lights wear out?

My headlights on my 90 SSE are not very good. I have never had to replace them in the 8 yrs I have owned the vehicle.I can even drive with the brights on and hardly ever get flashed. Besides adjusting them are there any new brighter lights that I could fit into the old girl,or are the just wore out and I should replace with original equip? Thanks, Christian

Well, I apparently found out recently my headlights were glass, which I sorta suspected, but I've been using Meguiar's Plastx to clean them and it works amazingly every time, I'd try the same on yours whether it's a plastic lens or not, because the bottle is around $6 where headlights are...yeah...a lot more....

Are they clouded or something? Dim? Yellow? Full of water? Please go into a little more detail. My 89 had some SERIOUSLY bright lights, they are glass, they are excellent headlights. I know when I had my brights on, I could see what seemed for forever. Maybe get some new bulbs? Silverstars maybe if you're not happy with standard halogens.

How old are the bulds?

On my 95 the bulbs were original until March of this year, 12 year old bulbs  I replaced them with Silvestars and they work great again  http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...164&highlight=

I bought the lowbeams at Target for $29. I'm pretty sure that's the everyday price for them here. I had to go to Autozone for the highbeams/Fogs because Target didn't have any. The highbeams were $37 dollars there.

On the 87-91's if the Reflector in the back of the housing is nice and shiney, simply replace the bulbs with something a Bit more up to date..

I put Cool Blues in my 91 a few years ago and still have them in there... I have plenty of light from the lamps ;)

Headlights

Bulbs are at least 8 yrs old thats how long i have owned her.Probably much older than that.I just got back in from playing with them. I tryed to remove the glass cover from the front to clean and polish after removing the clips and had a heck of a time breaking the rubber seal or silicone away from the housing. I managed to get the passanger side open but chiped the glass on the drivers side and stoped. On the passanger side the back reflective shiney material was wore out on the outside bulb(low beam I think) the inside bulb reflector seems much better.I cleaned the glass and removed the bulbs. 9005s & 9006s. Will any of these aftermarket bulbs overload my electrical system? Like thoes Silvestars or thoes cool blues?

The glass (or is it plastic) kept them sealed free of water and the glass is not yellow and not much dirt came off the cover when I cleaned the inside.

If your car takes the 9005 & 9006 bulbs then put the high beam light bulb in the low beam side and you will never go back to the stock 9006 low beam light again.
