Default 3800 - Will it hold 6 quarts?

I'm just curious, I'm not saying I will actually do it, but some folks say that your oil will run cooler and last longer if there'* more of it. Will it hold 6 quarts without the crankshaft beating on it? :?

Oh and I should mention that on my particular 3800, 5 quarts brings it exactly on the full mark; I mean exactly.

Read your owner'* manual. It'* in the glovebox.

Then go by your dipstick. It'* your bible.

I know what the owner'* manual says WillWren, but I just wanted to know if it'll hold 6 quarts without the crankshaft beating on it.

I'm sure it could hold 6, but I don't see the need. It'* not going to make the engine last any longer. Mobil 1 lasts 5,000 miles just fine. I don't see why you'd need to go longer than that.
Like Bill said, the full mark on the dipstick is where it'* meant to be.

Running over the manufactures spec could actually cause damage/oil frothing...at the least it could easily cause seals to start leaking prematurely.

Mac, put 8 in. Good idea. You can be the first.

WHO CARES? Nobody that has a lick of common sense would overfill a car'* capacity for oil, so why are we even discussing it?

To give someone a BAD IDEA?

This is a very dangerous thing to do, and suggesting the idea may be enough to lead someone down the wrong path.

I'm sorry for posting the Topic WillWren, and since you just now raked me over the hot coals, I think I'll go jump in the swimming pool now.

I gaurantee you can get about 12-13 quarts in. Think of the capacity of the top of the cylinder heads under the valve covers.

After all, the manufacturer doesn't know what they're talking about, right?

Forget about the swimming pool; I think I'll go hide in the storm shelter. . .

Now that macdrive has conveniently edited all his posts in this topic, I think it'* safe to put this topic to rest with one final statement:

NEVER OVERFILL YOUR OIL BEYOND THE FULL MARK ON THE DIPSTICK.

If you do it because of this topic out of curiosity and blow your motor or cause stains in your driveway that cost alot of $$$ to clean up, Macdrive will be willing to reimburse you. He lives in Clovis, CA.
