mmmm...Tune Up time!
Slight rant... I'm so sick of the Bonnie running like crap under moderate acceleration! Ugh. Everytime I go to accelerate she stumbles. Seems that when it gets past 3,000 RPMs, she smooths right out.
I've finally broke down and started buying the stuff to do my tune up!
Ordered the AutoLite wire set. $29.99 from Advance...not bad.
Also, ordered 6 NGK TR55 plugs. Got a sweet price on those! $1.29 each from Advance! Bought a fuel filter too.
Today I have to swing by an AC Delco retailer to pick up the oxygen sensor. Do I only have to change the one before the cat converter?

The only one which effects performance is the one BEFORE the cat.. however the other one is still used, but only to tell is the cat is functioning properly. If the new O2 sensor makes them uneven, it could cause a code. But, only in theory. Not quite sure if this is true or not. But yeah, I wouldn't drop $40 on a maybe. You can always replace it later.
Don't forget to pull the Fuel Pump fuse and run the car to drain the pressure.. unless you want to take a shower in fuel.

I always just opt for the fuel bath! Too lazy to pull the fuse and run 'er down. Just as easy to get under there and pop loose the line going to the engine after the filter first. Let it drain down, then loosen the other end.

Special tools..nope...just a couple wrenches. I think one is a 14 the other is a 16 or maybe 15 and 17. I opt for cracking a line and letting it drip down. Takes less time than waiting for her to use up the fuel...plus..usually you are doing it cold. No heat to deal with.
How long ago was your last tune up? I'm new to bonnies and keep hearing about you guys tuning them up...I'm starting to think it'* a frequent occurance

It'* very simple to do. The one side is fitted with a compression fitting. So, I use a flare-nut wrench to remove that end (that'* the end closest to the engine). And the other end is fastened with a plastic clip. That clip comes with the new fuel filter.
Very easy to change.

Completed the tune up! The car runs a million times better. I knew right when I started it up that it was better...it wasn't lobbing to find a steady idle!
I ended up using NGK TR55s, AC Delco wires, and a new AC Delco O2 sensor. I also changed the air filter.
I went to change the fuel filter and ran into an issue....when using a flare nut wrench on the threaded side (while holding back with a cresent on the filter), the flare nut was rusted to the filter. I'll be saving the filter for the dealer. Looks like the line will have to be changed if it kinks. I'll have them quote me a price over the phone and hold them to it when I go to pick it up! LOL.
On another note, I am SOOOOOOO done with Bosch equipment. I had Bosch wires on it (installed them at 55,000 miles...now at 108K). 3 of them ripped apart when I pulled on the boots. Complete JUNK. Never again will I buy any one of their products.
I'll post pics of my plugs shortly..
