Default Looking at buying a '96 Bonneville SE SC Need Input

A friend of mine is selling a supercharged 96 Bonneville SE. He bought the car with a bad transmission with about 135k on the clock.

I am tossing the idea of buying this car from and putting in a new transmission and use the car as my daily driver.

I'm a long time Turbo Dodge guy and know very little about this GM product. The car overall is in nice shape, under the hood nothing has been touched or hacked. It starts up and runs great but the trans is definalty shot since the fluid is BLACK and it will not move in any position of the shifter or RPM.

My question to the collective is simple....would one of these cars make a good daily driver (about 100 miles per day) and is there anything I need to look out for before I decide to buy it?

I'm not into mods and don't plan on doing anything for big power #'*. Just a reliable "quick" driver.

PS: What is the stock HP of this car?

Thanks in advance for all the input!

Rick as a new member to the BC as well I relied on a friend for the research. These cars are very reliable and parts are plentiful. The 96 SC version should be a Series II L67 motor with 4T-60 HD transmission. Good combination. Stock HP is 240.

The motors are known for 200K miles w/o too many worries and many members already have over 200 on their cars.

The 240 hp always sounds a little low, but alot have dyno'd higher stock. The real value is in the 280 ft/lbs of torque. And no turbo lag.

Sounds like a rare breed...I'd snap it up while you've got the chance!

Look at my sig they are much higher than 240/ 280. ESPECIALLY the torque. My car dynoed 337 ftlbs in stock form. I see you own a turbo Dodge. No offence but i'm not a Chrysler fan, BUT I think it would be fun as heck to have one of those as a quick little winter beater if I could find one. I saw a turbo LeBaron run low 9'* and smoked a SVT Mustang at the strip! They are obviously no joke.

The turbo Dodges are definatly cool cars. The Spirit R/T'* I own are very rare and can make big HP numbers..One guy here in Tampa hit 500 WHP with his Spirit R/T. I'm not big on modding my cars so mine stay in stock form.

Here'* a link to a site which has info about the R/T'* for those interested..
