Default Check Engine and Traction Control lights

Hello there, I have a 95 Oldsmobile 88 Royale with the 3800 engine (code K) I have tried just about everything to get these 2 warning lights to go off. From what I read the 95 was a transition year it has an obd2 outlet but the computer is an obd 1 or 1.5, I cannot read the codes. I have watch about 35 videos and tried many things like disconnecting the battery holding the terminals together, holding in the Traction Control button, etc. I changed the O2 sensor and took apart the EGR valve cleaned all the carbon out, the lights are still on. I need to be able to read the codes, I read about the paper clip trick with the 8 pin connector OBD 1 but I have an OBD 2 with the 16 pin connector.
Is there anyone out there that has had this problem, that could Help me?
Thank You

You must have the codes scanned by a compatible scanner. DO NOT attempt any kind of probing around with a paper clip as it WILL NOT work.

Thanks for writing back, I have scanned it with the proper scanner on 6 different occasions tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery terminals, checked all fuses, also taking the connector off 1 component at a time (egr, mass air flow, air fuel, evap, etc.)and re-trying still comes up link error cannot read the codes.

What kind of scanner are you using?

What model of scanner specifically?

As mentioned, it'* a hybrid system (OBD 1.5 as we so fondly refwr to it). It'* essentially spits out OBD 2 codes over OBD 1 protocols using an OBD 2 port. An OBD 2 scanner will not connect with it. The scanner must specify compatibility with that specific year range of vehicle.

Usually the scanners that can get it are OBD 1 and 2 compatible. I use an actron CP9145 for this very application.

Hi There, I am having a real tough time trying to find the Actron CP9145 scanner.
Is there another model that will work.
Thank You

Many scanners will work. Search for scanners that will do GM OBD1 and OBD2. Then confirm it will scan 94-95 Bonnevilles, Lesabres, etc.

Feel free to post any potential choices before you pull the trigger.
