A cardinal doing some weird things to my bonne

Theres a bird, a female cardinal, who keeps jumping from the hood of my car, to the mirror, to the roof, and back to the hood. I end up covering the car as soon as I get home because of the poop. The bird doesnt do any damage to the rubber edgings or anything else. Just keeps hopping around. If I dont cover the car, the cardinal will do this for literally HOURS. Anyone know whats up with the bird? I've never heard or seen anything like this.

GonneVille 04-29-2005 10:06 PM

Do you ever notice it making any noise or pecking/flapping at the car? It may be attacking it's reflection in the glass or paint, in the belief that it is another male trying ot horn in on it's territory.
Yes, birds are that stupid.

Twister97 04-29-2005 10:11 PM

Yea, I got scratches on my rear view mirrors from retarded birds.

sqela 04-29-2005 10:18 PM

i wouldn't be mad at the bird she's just admiring the beauty of such a great car :)

I thought that but its a she because of the dull coloring. Although its next to a bush so maybe theres a nest in the bush and feels the car is a preditor... but then why would a brown cover make it any less hostile to the bird? Im so confused lol.

There's a crazy cardinal here at work that keeps flying into the window. Every single day it does it for hours. We had one do it last summer too and I would bet it's the same exact bird

BillBoost37 04-30-2005 12:18 AM

I'm not mean and don't believe in killing for no reason.

Either you need to park somewhere else...or that bird needs to take a long walk off a short branch with it's wings tied up.

I mean...something needs to happen here. Winter is a long time away to let this keep happening.

captainmiller 04-30-2005 01:04 AM

Well...if it was doing damage I probably would have got the airgun out. Maybe you can set out some food for it somewhere away from the car to deter it from going in that direction. Maybe try to scare it pretty bad? Catch it and make it a pet?

JimmyFloyd 04-30-2005 10:28 PM

Yea... It is because it sees it's own reflection and is either A) Horny or B) territorial. Either way, covering the car removes the reflective surfaces. I had this issue with the company truck when i went home to binghamton last summer. There was a bird that just didn't seem to like it.

BonnevilleSEman 04-30-2005 11:20 PM

i don't know about birds..but dragonflies in the spring drop there eggs on my car...i know that they drop their eggs in water so i'm thinking it's becaust it is a blueish green color...it's odd..

LMAO

Best advise it don't leave your sunroof open...I did that once and I swear to god it looked like a bird seriously exploded all over the center console and seats....man that sucked ass.

Merlin 91/97 04-30-2005 11:44 PM

Try to grab a pic, or video of this crazy cardinal :!:

SHUDude07 05-14-2005 01:16 AM

Sorry if this is 'reviving an old topic' but finals kept me busy. Like I said, I've been putting the cover on so it has been well protected. What I'll try to do is leave it out and stake out by my car with the digital camera and see if I can make one of those short quick time movies of it. I'll take some pics too while I'm at it since the bird literally does this for hours. You guys have to see this nut case of a feather beak at work. The car needs a washing... again... anyway. Unfortunately I believe they're predicting rain tomorrow so might have to wait a day.

harofreak00 05-14-2005 01:20 AM

i so would take video of me shooting it and then send it in to AFV

Damemorder 05-14-2005 01:21 AM

I would just run it over. I've already got two bird kills.

I almost got 2 today. But not only did I not get one but it wasnt the bird molesting my poor car

At least Cardinals wont chew your wiring. I had a gpoher under the hood of my car and it wasn't pretty! Where I live you never park your car near a light standard at the mall or the Sea Gulls will dive bomb your car as they take off. That sh## really wrecks your paint as it dries in the hot sun!

brianj 05-15-2005 11:26 AM

BeeBee gun works good for anti-cardinal displacement, just don't miss or your hood will look worse than what the cardinal would do!! :2guns:

Spyder2k5 05-15-2005 11:42 AM

well, technically, that's 9 years of seldom washing your car. There was peelage on the trunk that was identical in shape to a birdshit incident, but I don't have a pic of it. Car may have been recleared sometime in the first 9 years of its life, we had it for its last 9.

The SSE isn't peeling anything, happily.
