L27 engine failiure 145K
What usually fails on the bottom end of a L27? My dad'* 93 Olds 88 with 145K has a loud knock coming from deep inside the motor. If he accelerated it would knock louder and seize up completely. It could be restarted though and again the knocking gets louder when reved. This confuses me as to why such a young 3800 is done so early? :?

How could it be seized up completely if he was able to restart it?

On my L67 S1, it failed at 175k due to thinning of oil when a coil pack went bad. You *should* pull the pan and take a look at what'* down there
How does the coolant look per chance?

This means that the engine has spun a bearing.. Its not exactly common for the L27 to do this.. Now the question will be which bearing did it spin... Most likely if the engine is clean and not littered with shavings( if there are shavings forget I said this ) you could pull the motor and put a crank kit into it, making sure that the rod that spun the bearing is resized to be within tollerances if that rod hasn't been damaged..
Then in your case it may be cheaper to find a Low milage L27 whit a pretty clean crankcase...

i just had to put a new motor in my 92.....same symptoms.. it would have actually cost more to get a crank kit and rebuild the motor than to get a lower milage one from LKQ.
