Can anyone identify this sound? (I even made a video!)

My car has been making an annoying noise now for about 6 months, and I've decided that I'm going to do something about it.

I know it's not the tire balance; it has done it with my summer performance tires AND my studded winter tires. (All of which were balanced to 0/0)

The steering wheel doesn't shake, so I don't *think* it's alignment.

All of the engine lights are for a bad speed sensor, passenger side (front). Could a bad wheel bearing/speed sensor be the source of the noise?

Everything is stock besides the air intake.

Note: You'll probably have to turn it up, my camera had a hard time recording the sound. It's like a slow-vibration noise. "whom-whom-whom-whom-whom"

that sounds like a hub to me i just replaced 3 of them on my ride

Downeasta 01-10-2011 08:18 PM

That's what I was thinking too.

Also..On ZZP, they have a hub for like 70 bucks, while NAPA+my dealership are both charging $200 or so (just for the hub).

Is there a big difference in quality, or are NAPA+my dealership just a rip off?

Damn, I forgot I can't edit posts.

Here's the ZZP hub.

go to http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php they have timken ones for $95 i think and very reliable brand and retailer

Downeasta 01-10-2011 08:25 PM

All I could find were the AC Delco ones.. : /

StealthGXP 01-10-2011 08:27 PM

Nothing wrong with the Delco ones

Timken are better, but more $$$

Sounds like a bearing to me as well..

For what it is worth if you have the extra do them both, and save up for the rears

Downeasta 01-10-2011 11:49 PM

Hrm...

Well, on RockAuto, the Delco ones START at like $200.. Damn you, W-Body.
So the Timken ones must be like $250 or something?

Anyone have any experience with the ZZP hub? I mean, for $70, that's a hell of a deal.

sawgunner 01-10-2011 11:53 PM

really? i just looked up a 2001 intrige on rock auto and the timkens are $90.79 each for the front and the rears non timken are just over $100 each

StealthGXP 01-10-2011 11:53 PM

hmmm, I have never used the ZZP one..

but for 85.00 you could try it
