Actually you'd be surprised. To do a full rebuild, I mean a full rebuild, every clutch, gasket, seal, sprag replaced vs a brand NEW transmission, it'* usually cheaper to replace it with a GM SRTA, which is basically a brand new trans. A brand new tranny for your car is around $2000, plus ~7 hours to install it. To overhaul your transmission is about ~16 hours labor and probably between 600 and 1000 in parts at a guess, depending how bad it is. Then with the new transmission you have a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty from GM.

In 8 years working as a GM tech, even though "I" can make more money rebuilding them, it'* a much better option for the customer to put a SRTA in and that'* what I push for. Sometimes its a few hundred more and sometimes a few hundred less depending on application. I don't think I've rebuilt one transmission customer pay in my life. They've always opted for the SRTA with the warranty.

the transmissions are already weak from gm why would you want to put a weaker one in?

I agree, a non-HD trans in a supercharged car = boom. Unless you BABY it. Then it will survive.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but does GM even make SRTA 4T60-E'* anymore? I'll probably take my chances with a junkyard transmission with good fluid, but if I can get a factory-remanufactured transmission, I might think twice.

I've been told that its only a difference with the diff cover and pass. side axle being as though my car has a hd trans if I get a non hd trans and take the diff off my old trans wouldn't it work and can someone tell me is there a difference with the trans in the L67 cars meaning can I use a trans out of a supercharged grand prix ,regal ,Bonneville ,park ave ,Monte Carlo ,riviera (spell check) I know that some have different final drive ratios but I was told that a 03 L67 gp trans wouldn't work because it was a different trans altogether which I really don't believe bit then again I know there are a lot of little changes here and there from year to year on these cars
