Default What Needs To Be Done To Save GM

Fellow Bonnevillians,

I come to you in a state of crisis. Our company, GM, is tanking ever faster than before. Many blame the UAW and rising healthcare costs. Many blame the lackluster quality of the GM cars and the tepid performance of these cars too. I cannot do a thing about the healthcare but I do can suggest things for the cars, especially Pontiac, Chevrolet and Buick.

Pontiac:
G6-needs a lot more horsepower in a base car to be competitive with the imports, they're packing at least 240 hp base. The styling is new and fresh but needs to be more flashy and way more aggressive. Dump the electric steering and put in a rack/pinion. Offer a "SSEi" version with a supercharged 3.5LV6. Fix the quality problems. And definitely fix the suspension, many say that Toyota Camry outhandles them. Put in a more responsive trannies.

Solisce- Awesome but make a V8 optional, a small displacement, high revving V8. maybe in the 4.0 range. Put in a better manual tranny. Fix the convertible top, make it so it'* easier to operate.

Bonneville-its gone so...

Grand Prix- they're improving on them but needs to be RWD now due to Charger/ Mustang popularity. Offer a coupe version too along with a big block too. Maybe revise the styling.

Sunfire- Quit being conservative, stick in a bigger four cylinder or a V6 (maybe the 3.5) Tune it so it equal or surpass other hp rating. Fix the suspension so it'* taut.

Torrent- Sick tired of badge engineering, make the front end better and put in a hi-po V6 maybe the 240 hp 3.9V6 and tune it for more horses. Offer it both with FWD and AWD

SV6- Make it more unique and make it the most road going of the four (Saturn, Buick, Chevy and Pontiac). Tauter suspension. Cheaper and better quality

This also go for All platform that Pontiac shares with Chevrolet.

Cobalt- Needs a V6 period and a better suspension too.

Impala- Fix the styling and make it more aggressive and road hugger. and RWD (hint, hint...)

Malibu- Redo it period, make it more aggressive, like the Saturn Aura concept. and stick in a 3.9L V6 as a option not as a SS only option.

What do you think, feel free to add your opinions...

Cody

They just need to quit putting things that nobody needs, on EVERY CAR. If you want a DVD player, order it. If you want 4x4, order it. Make it where you order the cars exactly how you want them, and have a barebones base truck. The Elbert County government owns a bunch of base model Silverados, and these things have cd players. I was looking for a Chevy Tahoe one time, and I could not find one with 4x4, no dvd player, cloth interior, etc. I knew exactly how I wanted it, and that'* how I was gonna buy one, no other way, there went one of their customers. GM has never directly made a penny off of me. That would have been my first new car, and the way it looks, I'll never be able to buy a new GM car or truck, so they'll never make a penny off of me. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Solstice: too small for a V8 to be practical, and it wouldn't fit the image of the car. Give it a turbo 4.

GTO: make the styling a little more aggresive

Sunfire is already gone.

I like the Cobalt idea

Not every car needs to be more agressive, thats a waste of even more money. Times are changing, and people need to accept it or forget it, in this case it seems like they are forgetting Domestic'*. It would be pretty weird if all those cars got upgraded engines and could keep up with each other.

Make the new platforms be able to accept AWD configurations!. That way you're not concerned with the half of the population that deals with snow shy away from RWD vehicles, and those in warmer climates frown upon FWD set-ups.
Look at Subaru. Racing scene: accepted. Foul weather set: love 'em. Me: want one (Legacy GT at least)

And oh yeah, stop this crap:

Badge engineering didn't work the first time, won't work again....

Leave it at that.

They can have the GTP and GXP for other models but, leave the SSEi for the Bonneville exclusively

wait for it.. the 2007-2008 camaro has that and more.. A new GTO is due out with updated styling, the next gen malibu has styling cues from aura and I think the g6 is fine the way it is.
GM makes some great cars and some not so great, their cars are improving. I still stick with and support them.

I've been hearing that rumor since first talks of canning the Camaro/Firebird line started, I just hope they don't dissapoint.

They should definitely bring a pony car back to compete and take back some of the market share they gave away to mustang.

In the Cobalt, forget the larger (V6) engine. Use some of the technology they've developed for the Cobalt racing program and put in a turbocharged 4. For something like the Cobalt, if you want to make a performance version, keep it light and nimble to really compete and attract the right crowd. Give the perf. version an aggresive handling pkg.
