Default Oil Spill Cleanup

I've got an oil leak and now my nice new garage floor is filthy. I've heard that kitty litter is good for cleanup. Is there anything better?

Kitty litter will get the worst of it on the surface, but you'll need to use a degreaser (something strong, like undiluted Simple Green or better) to soak into the concrete. The pressure wash it off. You probably won't get it all, but you can get most.

Kitty litter will work on tranny fluid too. First hand knowledge.

Default Oil Spill

It'* a painted floor, so I'll probably be able to get it all. I may just "accidentally spill" some brake cleaner on it, too, prior to the litter to help loosen it up.

Thanks for your input!

Brake or carb cleaner will probably destroy the paint on your floor unless it'* an epoxy-base paint.

I was gonna say, in some of the high hazard areas in the new airport epoxy paint was a necessary, I hope thats what you painted the floor with :?

Sawdust is a good one and so is the dust from sheet rock/drywall. Those will help pick that oil up.

i know menards and farm & fleet (those kinda stores, not sure what they are called) sell stuff that looks like kitty litter but is a lot cheaper and does the same thing. You could try using Dawn on the stain when you are done too. Make sure you let the kittly litter sit for a few days to soak everything up.

Oil dry or quick dry. Thats what we used at work to soak up all the oils that leaked or got spilled. Plu it was reusable.
