Brake self adjusters
 

What is a good lubricant for the self adjusters on rear drum brakes. I know that I don't want a bunch of oil and grease getting all over the drum or shoes. They have gotten stiff and hard to adjust. Only noticed it when I rotated my tires and found that the adjuster has not been working. The brakes are fine, but I don't want to have to replace the fronts because the rear are not pulling their load.

I use the front caliper bolt lube. Works great front and rear.

anti-seize works good

Or lithium grease. Its not worth a trip to the store for something special.

Lithium grease isn't rated for temperatures above ambient. It'll break down and be gone. Especially after it loads up with pad material.

Caliper grease is designed to hold up to high brake temperatures.

While the adjusters might not see direct heat, they get radiant heat from the drums and brake shoes. I'd agree with ensuring the grease is rated for the application.

Each time when servicing the rear brakes, the adjusters should be cleaned and relubricated to ensure proper function. Frequently (like front pin slides) this is overlooked and causes the rear brakes not to self adjust.

I've used Silicone Grease for years on for the front caliper slides and rear self adjusters. It was convenient and came in the little plastic tubes.

Anti-Seize is way too messy to work with and you don't want to get this stuff on your brake pads or shoes.
But I'll give Caliper Grease a look.
