How much do you know about headliners& aftermarket sunro
I've got an aftermarket sunroof, but it is nearly identical to the stock one aside from not having the rolled edges in the steel roof, and the nice trim in the headliner. When i got an estimate for having my headliner replaced, the guy said the aftermarket SR would be a pita, and he doubled the regular price. He also died this summer, and I'm gonna be tackling the job. My question is to save trouble, can i get the headliner board out of a car with stock sunroof, recover it, and fit it in my car?
How does the sunroof switch mount up there? does it just clip into the board? Mine is currently beside the foglight switch, but i already have a spare map light/foglight switch module without a hole cut in it.

Digging in the depths of my memory, the headliner in the parts car, which didn't have a SR, was relatively flat where the one in my SSEi (factory SR) drops down about an inch and a half to accommidate the guides. If your'* is a power retractable roof, I'm having trouble picturing how the headliner would have been cut. Can we get a pic?
The factory switch is mounted to the headliner separate from the fog switch/dome lamps module:

This is exactly where i am dumbfounded. I don't know how my sunroof has enough room to retract, but it does. unfortunately no pics. I'm afraid that i'm missing a large section of board, because the fabric was glued to the board in a horizontal strip above the rear seats, and always sorta hung between the glued strip and sunroof opening.

The OEM sunroof headliner does rely on the gasket to hold the headliner in place. Also, the manual shows a sunroof housing to which the gasket connects. If you do not have this housing, I don't think a sunroof headliner will be any easier. It might even make it more difficult as it might not be the same size opening or in the same location.
It sounds line your headliner was cut to accommidate the sliding roof but only fabric was used to cover the void. I'm at a loss as to which one would work the best.
