I am selling a 1977 Bonneville and am wondering what the reasonable asking price would be. It has 123,000 miles, power windows and seats, air conditioning, one or possibly 2 other owners (got the car from my grandparents in Iowa who mainly only put on highway miles), exterior and interior in excellent condition, runs smoothly, really nothing wrong with the car besides occasionally stalling when the wheel is turned all of the way either direction. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank you!!!

I would estimate a guess at between $300.00 and 3000.00 based on the answers to these questions.

Is it a US or Canadian car?
Are you selling it Certified, will it pass emissions?
How much rust is on the car, underbody?
What trim level is it?
Does it burn, or leak oil?
What type of repairs does it need?
Has it ever had rustproofing done on it?
Are there any Bonneville'* that year or close selling in your area?
How quick do you want to sell it?

I'll answer what I can for these questions. It is a US car. The body and underbody has no rust-it has been stored in a garage when not being drove until I got it from my grandparents this fall. It doesn't burn or leak oil. Aside from occasionally stalling(when the wheel is turned all the way either direction) there are no repairs needed. It has had regular maintainance-oil changes and such. Searching online I couldn't find any in my area. But most that I found were selling for somewhere between $2,000 or $3,000. The reason I'm asking this is my uncle suggested an asking price of $3,000. I have a potential buyer looking at the car this weekend-he left a note on the vehicle saying that if I wanted to sell the car to call him--there were no for sale signs on the vechicle!! Just wanted to get a second opinion on whether $3,000 was a reasonable price to ask...

the stalling just sounds like the PS pump is lowering the idle to the point of stalling, cars with on board computers and fuel injection will catch it, but with a carburetor it can probably be fixed by raising the idle speed JUST a hair.

As part of your search you might want to also check out Bonneville parts on ebay. Of course, i have never had reason to follow 1977 parts, but i have it in the back of my mind that i have seen some parts from that era go for a large chunk of long green.

Don't necessarily assume this guy wants to drive it. It'* 30 years old and has a working transmission and engine. That could mean thousands to a restorer somewhere because he doesn't have to search out a myriad of parts, and then pray they work together.

On ebay you don't need a lot of bidders. You only need 2 who want something very, very much.

I had a 1978 Bonneville coupe and even in very good condition, I can't say that I'd pay more than $1000 for one.

Its age is the primary problem, there'* thousands upon thousands of newer used cars, I can't think of many good reasons to buy a 1977 car. (I can think of a couple, but not a lot.) Despite that, if it'* in good running condition, it probably has *some* value to *somebody*.

My best suggestion is to check your local autotrader, craigslist, and ebay for similar cars that have already sold near your location, and use those prices as a guideline. While I only know what you've mentioned in your post here, I can't see expecting to get $3000 for a 1977 Bonneville.

In excellent condition, for example, my 1997 Bonneville SE BlueBooks for private party sale at $3350, for a car 20 years newer than yours. If I had $3000 to spend, and I could buy a 1990'* Bonneville for the same money, why would I spend it on a 1970'* model?

There are a number of different engines the 1977 Bonneville could have, do you know which one yours has? (And give us the engine code off the VIN? It'* like the 3rd or 5th letter in the VIN, I forget.)

Wild shot-in-the-dark price, I'd expect around $400, depending on what engine it has.

One upshot is that I never had any trouble getting mechanical parts for my 1978 Bonneville, although I probably had an easier time finding salvage-yard items 15 years ago than you're likely to encounter today.

buy your self a set of 24-26 inch rims (hmm about 2k) and put them on there and then sell the car for 10K.... you know someone will buy is cause its got super dubs on it... what ever that means.... ive seen some straid up fugly cars sell for alota money only cause it had huge rims on it...

i think the price really depends on whether the person looks at the car as a driver or a collectable. to myself, its a driver. 77 was the first year for the "downsized" bonneville and if i'm collecting i want one of the pre 77 land yachts.

i can't say much on price as here in salty old ontario, ANYTHING thats lived 30 years on these winter roads is worth its weight in gold. i don't know if your area is the same.

my advice with the guy who wants you to call is have him make an offer. if its what you feel is decent price ( and at the end of the day only YOU can make that decision) take it. if you want to spread yourself a bit wider, try putting it on ebay with a reserve of $2,000 to say $2,500 and see what happens. if you can't hit that you know it will have to be sold for less and if it beats that kind of reserve odds are you should get pretty close to the 3k mark.
