Default Battery acid leak and made hole in car!!! Heads Up!!!!!

Hello Gang!

You need to to check your battery on the 2000 and older models periodically to make sure it'* in one piece. About a month ago I noticed my 2000 Bonneville was leaking an interesting looking (rusty looking) substance around the area of the rear seat and on to the floor. I knew it was not oil, or any of the other ususal suspect liquids as this was acidy in nature. I later remembered that the battery on the Bonnie sits right under the rear seat. During an oil change (which i do myself), I noticed the car had a hole in the bottom, around the area of the rear seat and at that point, I clicked and realized the substance was probably battery acid. I took the car to my nearest GM dealer; the service manager took the seat out and sure enough - battery acid everywhere.

My Bonnie only has 47,500 miles and it is 5 years old. It'* been a great car, except for a leaky trunk lid which collects water (and GM can't figure out how to fix it), and this battery issue.

The battery on the Bonnie is an expensive thing as well - about 140 USD. The dealership said they have never seen that problem happen before; they're bringin a GM Regional Manager to look at the issue and see how they plan to fix it.

Lesson!!!!!!! Check your Bonnie battery every 6 months or so to make sure it'* still behaving well. look for suspect holes on the bottom of the car, around the rear seat area.

I'll report on what the dealer ends up doing.

Good thing you went to the dealer ASAP.
Did you say that the battery on the 2000 Bonneville is under the back seat? How do you jump start it?

BTW you can get a DieHard International battery for all 2000+ Bonnes and Auroras at Sears for 99.99 with a 3 yr free replacement 100 month prorated warranty. But you are correct to say that those batterys are more expensive than average, as the group size is uncommon....but they still have side terminals, so you may consider an Optima redtop for about 30 bucks more that should last like 2-3 times longer and CANT leak acid because its fully sealed.

Want to jump in on this one. Wife has a '99 Suburban that has had 2, count 'em 2 AC/DELCO batteries leak. Service Manager said on the first one, that they were having problems with them. Apparently they never fixed them. This is one time I was more than happy to just go to Wal-Mart and get a Extreme and go on. If that AC/DELCO leaks on my Bonny, all heck is going to break loose. Also, friend had a 02 Tahoe that two Positive terminals broke. Left her stranded.

WATCH YOUR DELCO BATTERIES.

LOL you have no idea how many delco batteries are sitting on my junk pallets at work....usually about 50 percent the positive terminal breaks off attached to the terminal end...TOTAL PITA to fix....if yer lucky you an use vice grips locked on to the broken old terminal and a wrench to take it out, but most of the time we replace the cable ends.
