Slick 50 Engine Treatment and Max Life ATF
Does anyone know anything about that slick 50 engine treatment? It says it changes the metallurgy of your vehicles engine, something like filling in all the same cracks or something, and prevents cold starts. I bought some synthetic treatment and it says it work with all motor oils for $6.50, normally $20 bucks.
Also I was going to change my ATF and seen Valvoline Max Life that says its specially formulated for Higher mileage transmissions and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it, its approved for cars that support Dexron III. I'd hate to buy it and then learn there are no differences between it and regular brands.

There is a lot of debate on Slick 50. I don't know who to believe. But some independent laboratories state that it doesn't do all that it claims. Something to do with the fact that the engine doesn't get hot enough to really let the small suspended particles bond to the cylendar walls. The one possible negative is that these particles may clog your oil filter. Other than that it won't hurt your engine--just your wallet.
As for Max Life products, Valvoline has designed these oils and ATF to do what they claim--and for the most part they do work. These products have conditioners which help rubber and plastic parts soften. After many miles, these parts tend to become brittle and crack. These emulsifiers will help reverse some of this brittleness. Of course it won't make your engine or tranny like new--only a rebuild will do that, but it does help.

If I didn't use synthetic oil...I'd probably resort to Slick 50. I was told that the properties of synthetic oil and that of Slick 50 are generally similar.
So, I figured over the long term, synth oil was the route to go, simply due to the suspect nature of Slick 50

You guys are all on the right track. I've used Slick50 or similar products before, but I've never noticed a difference. Most people wouldn't, even if there was one. If there'* controversy over something, it usually means that if it makes a difference, it'* so slight that a laboratory couldn't figure it out for sure.
Synthetic oils are confirmed. Stick to those. And Tim is right about the Max products. If Valvoline puts their name on it, buy it.

With my next oil change...next couple days sometimes, I am going to put a bottle of the really good **** in my car, its Synthetic and compatibile with all motor oils and has a 100k mile warranty on it (well if your car is below 100k in the first place) I picked it up for 6.50, so no big loss, and I report back. I probably wont notice anything cause that engine runs like new anyway, but hey I'll try.

Bottom line: keep your oil and filter changes on schedule and you'll be fine. If the stuff was worth it, the automakers would be putting it in at the factory. (e.g. They _do_ put synthetic in Corvettes at the factory since it'* better for the engines; they do _not_ put Slick 50 in, for similar reasons. )

I run Max Life ATF + .5 QT of Max Life ATF with stop leak. The stop leak is an added level of softener. I found it in the additive section of Advance Auto. I don't recommend anyone with a newer car use this combo, but anyone with over 100,000 miles could benefit from it. I have had no problems (that my ASE chip won't correct)to date.
I also run a mix in the oil department. Ever since the mainfold meltdown, at which time I was running Mobil 1, I have started using 2.5 Qts Max Life 10W 40 and 2 Qts Valvoline 20W 50 Racing Oil with a K&N oil filter. The difference is amazing! My oil pressure is very stable and reacts (rises) much faster on a launch. Good stuff.
I also run a mix in the oil department. Also, what type of motor oil should i put in, the factory recommended 5w-30? I was going to put 10w-30 in for the summer but should I got higher? My engine runs really, I usually put castrol 5w-30 in, but now that its getting hotter it seems I am losing a bit of pressure. Remember my car is stock.
