Default smelly Series II L67'*.

Both my car, and my mom'* SSEi have developed this horrible burning smell after you've been driving them. on mine you can only smell it when you are iding or shutt he car off and walk in front of it, and hers you can smell it at stoplights inside the car it'* so strong. It smells like a burning rubber smell maybe, or something burning that'* plastic? Maybe burning oil? i'm not sure. Is there any common problems, say, oil leaks, on the Series II that would cause this burning smell? I looked but I couldn't see any leaking oil on the engines, especially mine since I clearned it spotless in the fall.

I wish it were that simple. I hardly ever go over 2,500 RPM in my car and it makes that smell, infact it'* driven easy all the time basically. Definately something burning..

Might be an oil leak then if you haven't added oil lateley in a rush and spilled it on your manifold or lower intake. I remeber doing that as well and that causes the smell too.

Do you have a Bosch O2 sensor?

Someone posted before about the same smell, but they smelled it when they had the heat on in their car, and the burnt smell was coming out of the vents. I wonder if you have the same smell. He described it exactly how you are. I just don't remember who it was :?

Does it smell vaguely like rotten eggs or sulphur?

If it smelled like that, then its the starter and your battery.

You mean the smells I described? Those smells are a common indication of a bad O2. Unburnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust make that odor when there'* too much for the converter to convert.

sorry for the delayed response, been a little bit busy. Both of us have new AC Delco O2 sensors, so it'* nothing like that.. the smell comes from under the hood definately, rear engine area on both cars but can't pinpoint it or see anything.
