Any stock SSEi owners have any 'dealings' w/Chrysler 300M's?
 

Seems like ,on paper,in the car mags,that the SSEi's and the Chrysler 300M's are pretty closely matched up.Has anyone been along side with one at a stop light or on the open road?,...I know 300M's have a higher top-end speed,but from 0-80,0-100......how do/did they stack up???

I don't really think they do match up, to be honest...if i recall, in the performance review, the SSEi walked all over the 300M in every category.
On paper:

2000 Bonneville SSEi: 7.5 0-60
and 15.8 1/4 mile

2000 300M: 7.9 0-60
and 16.1 1/4 mile


The fact that the performance reviews stated that the Bonnie walked all over the 300M, i would assume the Bonnie has a faster accelleration rate and more torque.

After looking at the accelleration chart, (there's times listed all the way up for the bonne, but not the 300) it seems that the 300M dosn't do much until about 60mph...it's a pretty dead line until 60mph then it spikes. The Bonnie, however, does a spike at 30mph, gradually climbs then spikes again at 90mph.

THe SSEi has much more torque than both 300M's the regular and the limited edition. Bye Bye 300M

Sounds like a pretty unfair match up to me...off the line we have the torque, and if you race long enough they'll fry their lousy transmission :twisted: , so we're all set!

3hunnads are nice too me I don't care about that race'n sh** I'm only concered with how many options is in it, chryslers are nice in style'n and luxury; Mista loves that. (besides my aunt has a 3hunned and it runs great) I still can't figure out why someone would wanna race a luxury car like a 3hunned anyway?

???...300M a luxury car??......not as luxury as a loaded SSEi,.....Chryslers only try hard at making luxury cars :),.......yep,I've compared most of the numbers from the car mags(don't have a 0-100 time for a 300M,though),....methinks that after the 1/4 mile the SSEi will seriuosly make a believer out of the 300M driver, up to you hit the governed 130mph[besides,who's insane enough to race past that?].Last time I checked a 300M weighed 3567lbs......and an '00 SSEi weighed 3852 lbs....so the SSEi is not only faster,but it has the eqivalent of three 100lb bags of cement in the trunk :wink:

Yup, a stock SSEi can and will walk all over a stock 300M anyday! You would see this if you have ever seen the magazines with the numbers. My mom's boss had a 300M Special and always talked about how it was so much faster than any car out there. So my mom just said to him one day, "fine if your car is so fast lets race." Her boss was like, "sweet, lets go." 0-100, the 300M was smoked BADLY. Of course the SSEi had a K&N Filter & 3.4 Pulley at that time, so it wasn't stock, but it completely wasted the 300M. So much for the auto-stick that everybody thinks makes them so fast.

Exactly! You compare an SSEi to a 300M, and you will see how it is MUCH MORE luxiurious.

So, the ONLY 2 categories here that the 300M is better in is 50-70 (because the bonneville is at the bottom of 2nd) by .1 seconds, and the skidpad by .02g. Well, that and their claimed horsepower, but I think we all agree that the torque makes up for that.

This is funny. My father-in-law drove me up to Portland to get my 93SSEi when I bought it......in his 300M.

This is an early Series1 L67, but with low miles. Keep in mind the plugs were eroded, too. He couldn't hang with me.

He actually wanted to drive, so he drove partway back, and said that it had more pull than his Chrysler.

I am sick and tired of everyone calling the 300M a “luxury” car. In my opinion, the term “luxury” encompasses a lot more than leather seating and a plethora of gauges. To me, a “luxury” car is one that combines a plush interior and distinctive styling with tenacious handling and effortless power (when it’s needed). Unfortunately, by those criteria, the 300M fails. Although I do not consider the 300M’s exterior to be striking by any means, I could be persuaded to agree that the 300M’s exterior is attractive at certain angles. I would not even object to the fact that the 300M handles fairly well for a large car, albeit its ride is significantly less sport oriented than my SSEi. Chrysler decided to go with chrome accents for the gauges on the dash, whereas Pontiac decided to reinforce the SSEi’s sporty nature with its gauges – two different approaches. At last, we are left with the engine, which is where the 300M disappoints a true enthusiast. As much as it tries, the 300M’s 3.5 litre SOHC doesn’t even come close to the supercharged 3.8 litre OHV in the SSEi. Although horsepower is rated higher in the 300M, anyone that has driven both cars knows that torque is a car’s friend and, unfortunately, it is what the 300M lacks. At 25 lb-ft short of the SSEi’s torque (255 versus 280), the Chrysler 300M is missing the “effortless power” aspect of a luxury car. Now this is not to say that 300M’s are not nice cars, for that would be unjust. In fact, I say let the 300M owners think that their rides are more special than “just another Bonneville.” That way, they will never know what they are missing.

Gosh...you sound just like a Car and Driver writer...have you ever considered working for them (they could use a few pro-Pontiac writers :P )? :lol:
