Does GM still make the 3800 v6 ? Also did they ever fix the intake problem
I just heard that GM stopped the 3800 is this true ?? If so why ??
Also I was told that after 2000 they do not have the intake problem anymore true or false ??

Production of the 3800 V6 engine officially ended on Friday, August 22, 2008 when plant 36 was closed. Read more about the motor here.

I believe that was replaced with the 3500, I can't remember.
The intake problem was corrected with new aluminum gaskets.
I took a few of the old gaskets apart to see why they failed. They have a very thin plastic frame that fails very easy and then the rubber gasket material no longer has anything to hold on to. The aluminum gaskets fixed this by providing a much stronger support for the rubber gasket.

Originally GM had set this date for January 1, 1999; however, due to the vast number of complaints from both investors and customers because of the popularity and reliability of the engine, the date was extended. At the end of production, the LZ4 3500 OHV V6 replaced the naturally aspirated 3800 applications, and the LY7 3600 DOHC V6 replaced the supercharged 3800 applications.

That is correct. I'll post some pictures of the gaskets.

Ack, can't find a aluminum set. But, the inner plastic frame is replaced with aluminum.

That looked just like mine did a couple years ago on my 95. Typical failure. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the hardest, I give this task a 3 for repairing it.
