Default Date on UIM

(I'm not screaming "conspiracy theory" here, I'm just trying to spark discussion)
If this has already been discussed or if there'* a simple answer to this, please correct me...

I was checking out a Park Avenue'* UIM when it hit me... Why did they put the dates on the UIM? Think about it. Did they purposefully design a weakness in the designs of the UIM for GM'* benefit? Did they know that they'd fail? It'* odd that third parties have found simple solutions that nearly permanently solve the UIM problem, yet GM couldn't get it right until almost 10 years after the fact...

Does anyone else notice this, or is it just me?

Every product you buy has a build date (or production date) and a mold number if cast.

It'* required by law to track your own products for quality control. There are regulations in place as well that prevent a company from distributing overseas without this information.

For example, every single print cartridge HP manufactures has tracking information showing exactly which machines, dates, times, operators, batches, lot numbers, mold numbers, etc that every component that makes that cartridge went through or was made from, and HP has to save that information for 5 years from the date of manufacture.

So many components under the hood of the wife'* 2004 LeSabre have date and time code stamps on them, I think I can tell exactly what minute the car was assembled.

(That would be 10:10 am on 10/10/03)
