Coming home from the Wisconsin dells Sunday the TC light came on, shortly after that the ABS light came on. So I knew a WSS went out. I checked the plugs, cleaned them, still had the light.


So, I just happen to have a extra hub from when I replaced a bad on on the passenger side.


So I unplugged the drivers side WSS and plugged in the old hub.


No more light.


Then I plug in the WSS again and still, no light. So either it needs a bit to cause the error, or something had a bad connection. time will tell. If the light comes back on I guess I'm changing out a perfectly good hub on the drivers side.

Then just to make things more interesting, the Bonneville is acting up.

I head out for work Monday morning, click click, no crank. I wiggle the cables and put the boost charger on. Car starts right up. After 12 hours of work I come out, click click. Good thing I tossed the jumpers in the trunk. Got a jump and went home. Cleaned up the cables a bit, and put a 2 amp trickle charge for 3 hours.

Next day I head out for work, car starts right up. After 12 hours I come out. The door wont unlock with the FOB. Not even a click. I get a jump, start, and go home. I take the cables off and clean them real good and leave the car, no charger this time.

Next day, car starts right up. Off to work I go. Again after 12 hours, not even a click. Once more a jump is needed. I go home and park it.

Today I have off, so I go out and check the car again, no crank. Pull out the volt meter and check. 4.88 volts. Ya, looks like it'* a new battery time.

I bought it less then 4 years ago from batteries plus. I have a warranty, it says 65 months total replacement. Cool. Turns out total replacement does not mean total replacement. I'll get a $10 credit towards a new battery. Really? I think I can get more then that at the scrap yard. Wont be going back there again.

Ouch, sorry to hear about the battery. I put a Walmart battery in my truck with a 5 year warranty. I let Walmart change the oil in the truck, and last time I went in they said the battery was a bit short of CCA and replaced it for free while I had it in. I never noticed a problem, but that did make me feel pretty good knowing they would do that.

I'm thinking when the battery in the Bonneville goes I'll be heading to Walmart.

You know, a lot of people P&M about Wal-Mart. But I've been happy with them. I got a set of tires last year. When they put them back on the car they actually used a torque wrench, I didn't have to tell them. Then they went in the parking lot and did 2 figure 8s and rechecked the torque. They even had no problem putting the new tires on the front when other places would not do it. They wanted to mount them on the rear. I'm like, it'* a front wheel drive car. Don't matter, you'll have over steer with old tires on the back. I don't care, that'* more controllable then under steer in to the snow bank.

Take a side profile of the battery. Is it puffy?

Sides of battery look fine, nice and straight. I did a little testing.

+bolt to -bolt = 4.2v
+bolt to -post = 5.4v
+post to -bolt = 7.0v
+post to -post = 7.14v

The bolts go right in to the post, but I'm finding a difference in readings. I don't hear anything running, but I guess something might be draining the battery. I think I'll charge it up connect it and unplug the ELS and see if that helps. At night I'm parked on a level surface, and at work it'* on a slope. But when parked there the back end is up higher so it'* not like the ELS would be running, but worth a try I guess.

As for my wifes ABS. I went to get gas and the light came on. Filled the tank and left to go to the liquor store, light was off. Drove around for a while and it'* still off. We will see what happens. We have had a lot of rain and very humid weather, might have caused a little problem with that sensor.

Was the battery pretty dead when you took that reading Dan? I would think if it was dead the voltage would drop pretty quickly when you get farther away from the battery.

Ya, it was down. So I just got done doing more testing. Started engine and had 14v with the engine running, charging system is fine. After battery was charged I tested all the above tests and had 12.2v on all tests. Right now I have the battery disconnected. I checked after only 4 minuets and had 12.12v. I'm going to give it some time and see if the voltage drops, I suspect it will. There'* nothing connected to it so the voltage should not change by any amount other then very small. If voltage drops, it will confirm the battery is not holding it'* charge.

Now my wife just texted me, the door locks keep unlocking by them self. I figure out one problem and now I have to start on hers. I suspect corrosion. All this super high humidity must be getting in to everything.

I get to drive a caddy for a while until I'm able to pick up a new battery. I'm busy, might take a while. Pictures to come soon. Nice day, might have to wash it.

Ever considered using an Optima?

I'll be looking at batteries come Sunday. I'll check those out as well.

I can only speak from my own experience, but people are getting 10+ years out of these batteries. They're more expensive, but I haven't yet talked to anyone who'* not very happy with theirs. I've had mine in my Bonneville for a little over a year now.
