93 Silverado
 

A woman came into the shop the today and asked if we knew anyone looking for a truck. i told her that im looking for a truck. its a 93 silverado extended cab. as of right now thats all i know. anything i should look out for specifically when i go to look at it. thanks

Rotted out fuel and brake lines, especially if it a northern vehicle. Being it is a pickup- you can pull the bed so replacing the lines are not so bad, unlike a GM SUV in which it is beyond brutal.

Ball joints are a common high failure item on these trucks, and the tranny is another.

all the steering components are problem as well as brake lines as mentined but the parts are dirt cheap. my yukon had all these issues so i got it for half of what everyone else wanted. i redid every steering peice including the box for 250. the brakes i got a couple coils of line, fittings, and the metric tool for less than 100.

the tbi engines are really good on gas, i kinda wish i still had my old 89 350 in this yukon. the power gain from the vortec is not worth the complexity and mileage loss.

the transmissions are an issue but again ive found places that will rebuild it for relatively cheap and if your rebuilder knows the upgrades and you put a cooler on it you only have to do it once.

put a trans cooler and extra filter on it also watch out for fuel pumps they die out usally around 200k miles

93 was the first year of the 4l60e so the tranny is less likely to fail. Either way a fluid and filter change would be one of the first things on the list. also what engine is it?
If its the 350 I say go for it, you can't kill them and they actually will haul just about anything without complaining. Is it 2wd or 4wd?

my brothers tranny is out on his 96 silverado, he also had steering and posi issues, my my moms 97 silverado also had tranny issues

thats 96 and 97 thats where you get into the vortec crap and the later years my 93 trans has 256k on it and i can still hual a car without it missing a beat! can still mat the pedal and roast em off the rims and still drive it down the highway at 80 mph with no issues

Honestly not a whole lot changed on the transmission between those years. The way you make them last is to keep the fluid fresh and always haul in 3rd.

well like i said mine has a cooler and extra filter and gets new fluid every 20k miles and its still goin strong but mine has had the exact same routine sense it was brand neww
