Dissapointment
Today I was going to buy a 1995 Olds LSS L67 for $2900. Its the same one I test drove a month ago if you remember my poast. Of course, like the cautious consumer I am had it checked by a mechanic. They checked everything and it took 2 1/2 hours to look it over. They told me it ran very well and is a "very strong runner", engine and trans excellent. They then started to go over the little problems; leaking trans line, oil leaks, bald tires, and a bad supercharger coupler. Those are all cheap and easy things to replace. Then they hit me with this- "the air suspention is leaking and expect it to cost $800 minimum to do it yourself or up to $2000 at a dealer." I went back to the dealer, asked if they would split the cost, nope. I gave them the sheet for their records and they said they would sell it to an auction.

What would the computer think of not having air shocks? The guy at the shop said it would have to have the air suspention in order to drive properly and keep the computer form going haywire.

Oh no, those parts aren't even available from GM anymore. Many people have been forced into doing it.
What you would do is pull the Compressor'* fuse, and/or set the ELC arm to stay put where it doesn't adjust the shocks. The computer won't be on, and for the arm, it would see it as being at the right ride height and not adjust. It might throw a code, but it wouldn't cause any problems.

dude, you can buy monroe air shocks for $70 for TWO of them and do it yourself! I did mine myself and it was so easy! It took about 2 hours of time, but it was an extremely easy job. Don't pass on this car for just the air shocks. It'* rediculous how considering how easy of a job this is. I did suspension on all 4 corners for under $600 on my car, that'* including labor for the front struts, all parts, alignment, and balancing, etc. I bought really good struts too.. the car rides like a dream, and handles even better. :?

If you pushed my old (original) air shocks down, they wouldn't even come back up
And whenever dad/I go junkyard hunting, we're sure to pick any air suspension parts we come across. We've literally got hundreds of dollars (if new) in parts from other SSE'* gone to junk. No guarantees if they're good, but hey, they're dirt cheap. $500 parts go for $40.
