4T65E (both HD/Non-HD) Common Transmission Issues
 

Does anyone know the common problems associated with the 4T65E mated with the series two engines, especially supercharged. (both HD and NON) I was just wondering what the problems are and what you can do to prevent them and maybe upgrade these parts to prevent a future problem or correct one if it so happens. Thanks.

Currently on our 2000 SSEi it on occasion shift hard on 1st, 2nd, 3rd(slightly smooth shift) 4th(OD - shifts hard) now i know what the problem is (Pressure Control Solenoid) It sticks or something and send FULL line pressure. Anyways I checked with the Pontiac Dealer and they said it would probably be around 350-400 dollars to replace it not including the $23.00 part off of GMPD.... does anyone know if this part is easy to replace, iv'e got an Auto Service Tech Class at school and wouldnt mind doing it. (Just a note too.... This problem began after we had the tranny flushed at the place we have been getting our tires - alignments done at. They say that a flush cant screw something like that up. Jerks :ripped: we will not be taking our vehicles to there lovely shop anymore. PLUS they didnt put the wheel weights on the inside of the wheels either like they were asked, we werent charged but still, crappy Customer Service!!!!

if ur taking a auto tech class u should balance ur tires there....

i didnt have the class when we had the tires done but when they need to be done i will be doing it, its soo easy to do and NO LABOR or Shop Charge!!! :D

i was taking an auto tech class untill the school decided to rip me off for over $400, then i decided that i wasnt going to sign up for next semester, even though im half finished.

wow that really sucks, so do you have to quit in the middle of the class? I'd be quite pissed off bout that. To the School Administrator ---> :ballkick: haha Just Kidding!

I think that line pressure controll is a problem on the 4T65-E.... Haven't heard of too many doing that tho..

On the other hand we have seen a handfull of the 4T65-E and 4T65-E HD transmissions go out... Some modded some unmodded... It seems to usually be the torque converter failing, or the 4th gear splines... I think there have been some other failures.. I have yet to see a 4T65-E with a destroyed diff here on BC... If you know what the problem is and can fix it, then I'd go for it... Let us know what you find..

But the 4T60-E is another story..

Those are the two biggest power related problems i know of.

We've seen numerous transmissions fail here after a transmission flush. It's especially prevelant on the 4T65Es that are flushed after never having been flushed, but are at more than 60,000 miles. The flush actually does the damage to the transmission by stirring up the foreign particals that the flush machine couldn't completely extract.
