'48 GMC Pickup vs. Hemi Dodge Ram

A couple weeks ago we went to the NSRA Street Rod Nationals North in Kalamazoo, MI. So on the way home we are in our 1948 GMC Pickup. We had brought it to the show to sell it so we wouldn't have to store it for the winter. The truck sold, but the guy didn't have the cash on him so my dad drove it home and he got it a few days later. But on the way home we pulled up to a stoplight, after sitting a few seconds a red dodge ram pulls up next to us and I notice the Hemi logo on the side. Now knowing that our '48 GMC has a completely stock S.B. 350 from a '70 Nova, with the 2bbl carburator and all, and the timing was advanced 5-10 degrees further than it should be so if you got on the gas more than 3/4 of the way you would get audible spark knock, there was no use in racing because we knew (or at least assumed) the 345hp dodge ram would be quite a bit quicker. So the light turns green and we accelerated from the light normally, which is at about 3/4 throttle (as far as you can go without spark knock) because that is just how my dad drives, so it seems like we are trying to race when we really aren't. So the guy in the Ram thinks we are racing and just nails the gas. Well by the time we got up to about 35mph this Dodge ram was even with us. He was pulling slowly and as we got faster he pulled harder (obviously). By 50mph he had proably 2-3 carlengths on us, and by 70 he had probably around 5, but you have to remember this hole time we were at 3/4 throttle. Now if we would've gone WOT I have a feeling we would've stood a chance, but at the risk of blowing up an engine in a truck we just sold, so it wasn't worth it for a Dodge ram. I just found it kind of hilarious that the Hemi dodge ram was only pulling away that quick.
