Ahh - the power of 'air'
So i never had the time to fix up a heat sheild for my CAI, but i figgured it wasnt that big of a deal , especially when moving.
I ASSUMED that once you hit the highway you were golden because the air would circulate through the engine bay. I fixed up my OBD computer system tonight and did a little data collecting.
I took a 20 mile journey, 15 miles of which are 70mph freeway:
Manifold Air Temperature at begining of journey (cold engine): 65* F
I was continuously moving untill my destination
MAT arrival at destination: 70*F
Not bad i thought to myself! Only 5*. I proceeded to Idle my engine for 10 minutes in place.
MAT leaving destination: 150*F
SHEEEZUS thats hot air going into my engine. OK I thought, 15 miles on the expressway and it will be back down to 75.
MAT arriving back home: 110*F
Moral of the story: MAKE A FRICKEN HEATSHEILD and find a way to get more cold air in the engine bay!
