R.I.P. to 14 cars and trucks for 2012
I say only 3 vehicles surprised me; Ford Ranger, Dodge Dakota, and Mitsubishi Eclipse.

I heard about the Ranger being axed last year..but I thought they were planning on bringing in the global Ranger. The Mazda B-Series has been gone for a few months now.
I was somewhat surprised to see the Crown Vic being cut. Yeah, I know its very outdated, but its such an iconic car for Ford.

The Crown Vic didn't surprise me. It hasn't changed in 14 years. Plus, Ford is using the Taurus SHO as a cop car now.
*Off topic* I saw a new Chevy Caprice PPV the other day driving home.

I love that wildtrak. It sucks that they won't be here. Maybe some time in the future they'll be back.
The Caprice PPV looks really cool. They don't have any around here yet. I doubt it'll be able to hold up to the SHO Interceptor. Ford definitely has the advantage with the awd and a very strong motor.

The new Chevy Colorado looks kinda like the Wildtrak Ranger. With the Ranger and Dakato gone, hopefully those buyers will go for the Colorado or Canyon.
The SHO is going to be hard to beat, but here'* an article that says Chevy does better. (The website might be biases.)

I think Ford is making a mistake by losing the Ranger. I'm not trying to be biased or anything. I owned a 2000 Ranger 4x4, and overall, it was a tough truck, but really outdated. I drove a 2010 Colorado 4x4 5.3L and it was a real nice truck. It felt really solid, and better than the Ranger. I know if Ford had put some effort into revitalizing the ranger with a new exterior, or even just an updated engine line, they'd be able to keep up with the Colorado v8 (I have no comments on the I5..it feels like a mistake on GM'* part to me).
That website about the Caprice seems very biased. They didn't even mention the v8 Charger at all. But I'm sure that it couldn't keep up with the Interceptor SHO. Especially not in a climate where there is a real winter with lots of snow, ice, and terrible road conditions. I've seen a lot of bad conditions, and I've seen a few Crown Vic interceptors that have had trouble in the snow. A couple years ago, I saw two turning at an intersection with lights and sirens on, fishtailing, because of the outdated design. AWD will always be the dominant drivetrain when it comes to police vehicles. I'd really like to see GM make the Caprice AWD. With the 6.0, it would be a real hard car to beat. The same also applies for Dodge and the Hemi Chargers.

gm has been making the fwd impala police car for a long time, you still dont see them around here too much even though it snows alot here and the crown vics are undriveable in a storm thats all you still see from the state troopers. all the local police have tahoes or expeditions. i think its the old school cops not letting go of the mind set or something that a fwd car can be better in alot of ways.
my ideal police car would be like a G8 rwd/v8 most of the time and have a transfer case like my yukon autotrac just hit the button if you need more traction
