2002 Malibu vs. 1993 Pontiac Bonneville SE

Of course I own the 1993 Pontiac Bonne and my friend has a 2002 Malibu with the 3100 which if noone knows is a rather quick engine. Anyways we decided to take our cars down to the local "cruise" and race. I was rather excited being the first time ive raced since I have been really working on my car hard latly and worried about what it could do. Anyways we both got ready and pulled up to the line. The chrismas tree ran down its colors and we both mashed the gas. I didnt burn out because my traction control is stuck on :? anyways I was flying and I passed him in like 1 second(his tires were already sticky cuz he could roast them) anyways I go flying past and hit a 1/4 mile in the high 15 area. He was about 16.7 or something high. I was happy but not satsfied I need to get faster then I will be looking for more blood  .

I detail cars in the summer and drove my friend's 99 Buick Century to drop it off at his house. It also had the 3100. It is pretty quick like you said. I haven't had the opportunity to race one yet but I have no doubt they'd get a good look at my plate. Good kill

I have driven a malibu also, but I really didnt get the idea that they were very fast. Mostly what i noticed is the hesitation in acceleration and poor build quality.

Not to slam your kill or anything, just puttin' in my 2 coppah pennies!!!

sse1990 drives a Malibu now and he seems to love it...I'm sure he'll have something to add about the Malibu, I have been in 2, seemed OK, and have heard 2 storys...1 he blew the tranny and 2...the other story, his 'bu runs like a top

russianpolarbear 05-16-2003 11:15 PM

well... could you beat a Jaguar XJ220??? it only has a 3.5L engine but it has twin turbos... well, could the T-Bird??? i think not...

russianpolarbear 05-20-2003 05:31 PM

I bet I could if it didnt weigh 4500 pounds.... jack ass :ballkick:

95BonnevilleSESC 05-20-2003 06:02 PM

Hey Russian,

What year is your thunderchicken? I have the "Vinnie" version in 1969 vintage with the 460 and a Holley 750 double pumper. It turns 365 hp and 500 lbs. ft. Of course it weighs in at 4600 lbs. and gets 9 mpg.

russianpolarbear 05-20-2003 06:32 PM

Mine is a 66' Land. a very nice car and very fast indeed. I have Edelbrock Accesories tho, Intake, Carb , Headers, etc. Nothing better then the look of people when you pull away from them in a big boat ride eh? I dampered my exhaust so its a real sleeper but I can really lay some nice rubber down on the road. 8)

95BonnevilleSESC 05-20-2003 06:40 PM

Yes it is! You know what I mean about the "Vinnie" version don't you? It is the Lincoln Mark III, a Lincoln on Thunderbird underpinnings. The critics of the time (1968) said it looked like a Thunderbird designed by seven guys named Vinnie!

Does yours have Posi (limited slip)? Mine is open. It is such a waste of 500 lbs. ft. of torque all going to one pathetic right rear wheel :( It makes burnouts pointless.

russianpolarbear 05-20-2003 07:18 PM

Yeah I have a Detroit Locker rear in my 9 inch. .... Sounds awesome when going around corners if you know what I mean.
Yeah I enjoy your year and stlye Thunerbird. Does yours have the suicide doors? or was that just 67?
I got mine and it had a 390, I loved this engine but just werent enough peformance parts for it. So I skipped the 427 and hopped to the 460 and am very happy I did. Mine is red with a white top. Boy is it sharp even tho its still got orig. paint on it.

95BonnevilleSESC 05-21-2003 09:41 AM

When I say it is the Lincoln version of the Thunderbird, I mean it literally. It is a Continental Mark III. Ford made use of the same chassis for the Mark III and the Thunderbird. I know that '67 had the four door T-bird with suicide doors, but Lincoln never made a four door Mark III, IV, V, VII, or VIII. They only tried that for the short-lived Mark VI from 1980-1983.

I think that the 427 was actually under rated for HP. I heard that it was closer to 500 hp than what the book said. Too much pressure from insurance companies and a mounting debate in Congress.

russianpolarbear 05-21-2003 06:13 PM

Hehe true the 427 is a very nice engine. I didnt know you meant it literally and I dont think Ive ever seen a car such as yours. Atlease I dont think so I may have seen one and not known what it was at a car show or something.... Anyways I went with the 460 for torqe and Hp ... I got as much torque as a damn monster truck...
