Default new piston - tell-tale signs?

i dropped my 04 off to be serviced at the dealership the other day. tuesday. i asked them to look at the transmission, the weatherstripping, and anything else they felt appropriate. i did this because my warranty expires in roughly 400 miles. called back today and asked them when my car'd be done. their response?

theyre looking at the transmission today. apparently they had to replace a piston and something else.

my question is, is there something i missed? how the hell did i not notice this?

it will obviously be warranty work because they didnt call me and okay it first. they have to do that before doing things that cost me money and i didnt okay, right?

They should always let you know of work that has to be done before doing it!

I work at a dealer and they cant fake waranty work. Most all parts have to be sent to a evaluation center and if they are not defective in the exact way stated by tech coments the job is shoved back in their faces. But sometimes retail work is a fake, depending on if they know thay can screw the customer.

Yes, lets keep it on
Why didnt they call you?
On a warranty job it becomes there responsibility JUST to fix it, just the essential broken parts since it is there warrranty..
this is what they did
..
i work in a truck service shop, warranty work happens, every single last piece must be returned to the vendor for evaluation its quite the process

I was just speculating on how you could miss a "bad piston".

Which cylinder had the piston replaced? Why, what led them in that direction? That' * pretty radical imo.
