Exclamation Broke down on the highway tonight...

Driving home from work tonight my serpentine belt shredded and slipped off. Had the cruise set and all the sudden heard a horrible screech, lost power steering, and starting over heating real fast. Pulled over popped the hood and saw this...

I am a little worried that it got so hot, I mean it was in the red

As long as there was coolant still in the system, you should be fine. The natural expansion and contraction of the coolant heating and cooling should have moved itself around enough. Hopefully this will learn ya to always keep an eye on the 2 most important gauges. Oil pressure and coolant temp.

My old Bonneville did that for a while. If I drove through a puddle or while it was raining, the belt would just slip off. Needless to say, it overheated a lot, and I never had any heat-related issues.

If you say the belt shredded, then maybe it was just an old belt; for me, it ended up being a DOA replacement tensioner.

Exactly what happened lol... Had to buy a new pulley and a belt and replaced it right there on the side of the highway. While were working on it, a lady and her daughter pulled over with a flat tire on an old rusty grand am! lol. So me and my dad helped her put the spare on and got her to church on time! lol... theres my good karma for the year

Heres is the busted pulley...

Plastic surrounds the bearing and I think they need to be replaced more often! (50K)
I dont know how many miles his had on before it melted, but my PK Ave one in photo below had 90k miles on it. (front & rear of pulley) Still like new!
Since I was replacing the belt I also installed a new pulley to ensure lots more headache free miles.
