audio techinfo or sticky?

for all those ppl who want a nice sysyem but dont even know where to begin like me, i think it would be nice to have a techinfo article describing all the different audio components, good places to start with audio, what works on our cars and what doesnt, the necessities, and all that jazz...*shrugs* just a thought.

This would be a hard topic to do. Components change very ofter and budgets can dictate numberous configurations. Depending on what they want (bass, video screen, ps2, etc...) and what type or audio they willl be playing (movies, conrty, rock, hip hop, etc) there could be too many possible configurations to document them all. Good thought though. I have seen a lot of questions on this comming thru lately as well.

I think you might be on to something. I see many posts like "what size speakers are in my doors" and "what does this gain thing do". Audio websites like Crutchfield do give a lot of information as to the compatibility of different components but it is a bit vauge and somewhat complicated.

Perhaps an application list including speaker location, size and depth, headunit size, a good explanation of what DIN and 1/2 DIN mean, how to conquer the ribbon cable and data bus problem in the 2000+ models, maybe even a wire gauge recommentation for total system wattage.

Although these are the basics, they are some of the most asked questions. The thing is, there is going to be quite a bit of information to be gathered. I don't think one person compile it without owning three generations of cars and be quite audio savvy. It would need to be a team effort.

I think that an audio FAQ would be an excellent idea, even if it is just to explain how the factory systems are set up. Speaker size and so forth. Maybe it could be added to the forums Tech info, under audio or something. Also it should include all the configurations for all years. It would be a lot of work, but if we can get a few members who know their stuff to put in info, then it would be a permanent resource. That way new members especially could use it as a quick reference to start with. just my 2 cents. 3.5 cents canadian
